Position Overview

The Shop Chef will lead daily kitchen operations, from production for our deli and grab-and-go case to our weekly pre-orders, and event/catering menus. This role is hands-on, balancing culinary creativity with operational efficiency. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, values quality and consistency, and enjoys collaborating with local farmers and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all kitchen operations: prep, cooking, and cleanup
  • Plan and execute seasonally inspired menus for shop meals, and catering
  • Manage and train kitchen staff to ensure high productivity and food quality
  • Coordinate with local vendors and farms for fresh, sustainable ingredients
  • Maintain food cost targets, portion control, and inventory management
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation standards
  • Collaborate with owners/management on product development and event planning
  • Participate in catering execution, including occasional off-site events
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work culture

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of professional kitchen experience; management or lead line role preferred
  • Strong understanding of farm-to-table cuisine and seasonality
  • Proven ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining quality
  • Excellent leadership, organization, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of food costing, ordering, and kitchen scheduling
  • FoodSafe certification or willingness to obtain
  • Passion for community, sustainability, and great food
  • Motivated self-starter; able to work both independently and guide a team
