Assistant MEP Manager Location: Surrey Project: Residential Development Project Stage: Early Design / Pre-Construction Employment: Permanent The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Assistant MEP Manager to join the team on a major residential development in Surrey, working for a main contractor. The project is currently in the early design and pre-construction phase, providing an opportunity for the successful candidate to become involved from the outset and play a key role in developing the MEP strategy, coordinating the design, and preparing the project for a planned site commencement in January 2027. The role would suit an Assistant MEP Manager, MEP Coordinator or experienced MEP Engineer looking to take the next step into a management position within a high-quality residential construction environment. Key Responsibilities Design & Pre-Construction Assist the MEP Manager with the management and coordination of all MEP design activities. Review MEP design information, drawings, specifications and technical submissions. Coordinate MEP design with architectural and structural requirements. Identify design gaps, clashes, buildability issues and potential programme risks. Attend design coordination meetings with consultants, subcontractors and the wider project team. Assist with the development and implementation of the project's MEP strategy. Support the review and approval of technical submissions and design proposals. Ensure MEP information is coordinated and issued in line with the project programme. Assist with BIM and model coordination where applicable. Support the development of MEP procurement packages and scopes of works. Pre-Construction & Procurement Assist in preparing MEP tender and procurement information. Review subcontractor quotations and technical proposals. Assist with the assessment and comparison of MEP subcontractor packages. Support the appointment and onboarding of MEP subcontractors and suppliers. Work with the commercial team to identify scope gaps, exclusions and potential variations. Assist in developing MEP programmes and procurement schedules. Construction Preparation & Delivery Support the MEP Manager in preparing the project for the January 2027 site commencement. Assist with the mobilisation and management of MEP subcontractors. Monitor progress against the MEP programme once construction commences. Assist with quality inspections and ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved design information and specifications. Support the resolution of technical queries and RFIs. Assist with commissioning, testing and handover requirements. Maintain accurate MEP records throughout the project lifecycle. Experience & Qualifications The successful candidate will ideally have: Previous experience working within MEP construction/design management. Experience on residential, mixed-use or similarly complex building projects. Experience working during design development and pre-construction would be highly advantageous. A good understanding of mechanical and electrical building services. Experience coordinating MEP subcontractors, consultants and suppliers. Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, specifications and technical information. Understanding of design coordination and buildability. Experience with BIM/model coordination would be beneficial. Relevant technical or construction qualification, such as an HNC/HND, degree or equivalent experience. Strong communication and organisational skills. Ability to manage multiple technical issues and priorities. A proactive approach with good attention to detail
