Technical Manager – M&E Contractor About the Role Our client, a growing mechanical and electrical contractor, is looking for an experienced Technical Manager. This role suits someone with a technical and design engineering background in M&E and proven pre-construction and tender experience. You will be the technical lead for the business, supporting projects from bid stage through to handover and making sure they are designed, coordinated and delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality. You will work closely with the Head of Operations, report to the Company Director, and build strong relationships with clients, main contractors, consultants, designers and subcontractors. Key Responsibilities * Lead the technical side of tenders: review drawings and specifications, identify risks, and develop value engineering options to win work. * Develop and coordinate M&E design from commencement to handover, leading liaison with consultants and design teams. * Identify design clashes and installation issues, and provide practical solutions. * Review technical submissions, equipment selections and manufacturers' information. * Support project and site teams with programme, costs, resources and procurement, and oversee subcontractors and suppliers. * Work with the commercial team to monitor costs, manage variations and identify savings. * Support Quality Assurance and Health and Safety systems, and review ITPs, testing and commissioning records. Essential Experience * Proven experience as a Technical Manager, Design Manager, Senior M&E Engineer or similar. * M&E building services design and technical coordination background. * Strong pre-construction and tender experience. * Ability to read and understand M&E drawings and specifications. * Experience managing subcontractors and suppliers, with good commercial and contract awareness. * Strong communication and organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects. * Full UK driving licence. Desirable * HNC, HND or degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering. * CIBSE or IET membership. * SMSTS and CSCS. * AutoCAD, Revit or BIM. * NEC and/or JCT contracts, and design-and-build experience.
