Contract Role: Mainframe Performance and Capacity Analyst – Banking – Inside IR35

Location: UK (Remote) or Denmark (Hybrid – 10 days/month onsite)

Duration: 6 months+

Client: Global Consultancy, End Client in the Banking Sector

Salt is working with a global consultancy delivering high-level mainframe optimisation services to a major banking client. We are recruiting an experienced Mainframe Performance and Capacity Analyst to support proactive tuning and capacity planning across critical z/OS environments.

This role sits within a Performance Competence Centre, with responsibility for system and application performance diagnostics, workload forecasting, and tooling optimisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, analyse, and tune mainframe system and application performance
  • Conduct capacity forecasting and support infrastructure provisioning
  • Lead performance data analysis and reporting using SMF, RMF, WLM
  • Develop and maintain custom tooling and dashboards
  • Liaise with technical teams to prevent capacity-related issues
  • Create documentation, reports, and performance improvement plans
  • 7+ years’ experience in mainframe performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Strong knowledge of SMF, RMF, WLM, and performance management tooling (APA, MXG, SAS)
  • Ability to analyse batch and online application performance
  • Comfortable working in high-availability banking environments
  • Experience with ELK stack or in-house dashboarding tools
  • Coding experience in REXX, Python, Assembler, or PL/1
  • Familiarity with z/OS system internals and workload behaviours
  • UK-based contractors: Fully remote. Must work via umbrella (inside IR35)
  • Denmark-based contractors: Hybrid model, 10 days/month onsite
  • Background checks to be completed post-onboarding
