About the Company
We're partnering with a fast-growing, profitable student platform that's just closed a £7m Series A and is gearing up for a US launch. Think TripAdvisor for students — 14 million users, 4.3 billion data points, and a product that genuinely shapes where students choose to study and live. On one side it's a B2C reviews platform; on the other, a B2B data and insights tool used by student accommodation operators, investors, and property advisers across the UK. The team is 50+ people, fully remote across the UK, South Africa, and Brazil, and they've built a culture that runs on freedom and responsibility — own your work, manage your time, no micromanagement.
The Role
This is a new seat at the table. There has never been a dedicated UI/UX designer in the business, and the opportunity is wide open — both products need you. You'll own the end-to-end design process across a B2C student platform and a B2B insights tool, and one of your first missions will be bringing proper governance to a Figma setup that's grown organically across several contributors. If the idea of inheriting a messy design system and making it something to be proud of genuinely excites you, this is the role. You'll report to the Director of Brand and Creative and work closely with the incoming Head of Product, a junior graphic designer, and an engineering team across multiple time zones.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own UI and UX design across both B2C and B2B product surfaces
- Audit, restructure and evolve the Figma design system — components, auto-layout, tokens, the lot
- Design wireframes, user flows, prototypes and high-fidelity UI for web and mobile
- Work closely with product owners and engineers to ship well-considered, production-ready experiences
- Use Hotjar, analytics and A/B testing to inform and validate design decisions
- Advocate for the student user across the organisation
- Help shape best practices for AI-assisted design and development workflows
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of UI/UX experience in a product-led environment, ideally B2B SaaS or marketplace
- A portfolio that demonstrates end-to-end design work and clear problem-solving — data-heavy interfaces or dashboard products are a strong plus
- Expert-level Figma — components, auto-layout, prototyping, design systems — you've built and maintained one properly before
- Comfortable being the sole UI/UX designer, with the confidence to set direction and the humility to collaborate
- Strong working relationship with engineers — you understand front-end constraints and know how to hold your ground constructively
- Genuinely self-sufficient in a remote environment — good energy, good communication, no need for external structure
- Curiosity about AI tools in design and development workflows is a plus
What's on Offer
- £55,000 – £60,000 depending on experience
- Fully remote — UK preferred for time zone, but flexibility exists
- Unlimited holiday (minimum 25 days plus UK bank holidays)
- Flexible working arrangements
- Pension (3% employer contribution)
- The pace of a scale-up with the foundation of a profitable, growing business
