Principal Consultant (Freelance Creative) at Salt

Looking for a talented Designer/Art Director based in the UK to join the brand creative division for a global social platform for a 6/7 month contract.

This role is inside IR35 and will require the candidate to go via an Umbrella company.

This contract role requires a passionate creative with strong design skills and experience creating unforgettable in-person brand experiences. You’ll collaborate with talented, multi-disciplined, creative project teams, and be a hands‑on maker who will actively shape how the brand comes to life across owned and industry brand experiences/events for Advertisers in multiple EMEA markets.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and help conceptualize compelling, memorable brand experiences — from promo materials to the experience itself.
  • Apply best-in‑class art direction across mediums: digital, print, environmental, experiential, and branded content.
  • Support photo curation and event styling, ensuring every visual detail is thoughtfully chosen and beautifully executed.
  • Partner closely with creatives, strategists, producers, and marketing across the creative process.
  • Translate creative briefs and abstract ideas into compelling stories, moodboards, photo selects, sketches, and final assets.
  • Compellingly represent the thinking behind the team’s work to key stakeholders, creative directors and team members.
  • Provide and receive feedback to internal and external collaborators across disciplines.
  • Be a source of inspiration through your collaboration with writers, designers, animators, producers and marketing managers in creating work that has deep cultural resonance.
  • Uphold visual standards, ensuring all creative outputs embody the brand’s unique identity and values.

Skills and Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a designer / art director.
  • Impeccable sense of taste and style, with a portfolio that highlights strong design, art direction and event styling.
  • A book of work with examples of outstanding creative across a variety of brands and mediums.
  • A hands‑on maker, with the skills to effectively communicate concepts, direction and decisions with the team and with external partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a track record of collaborating with creative teams to achieve their best work.
  • Strong grasp of design and art direction craft across a wide variety of formats.
  • Strong presentation skills, with an ability to convey complex concepts in compellingly simple terms.
  • A paragon of craft, composition, typography, color and imagery. Your attention to design and photo art direction details is legendary.
  • Experiential art direction and design experience.
  • Experience art directing on‑site and working with production partners / external creative agencies.
  • An accomplished creative who can bring out the best work in others and produce exceptionally high quality work individually.
  • Full proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (but mostly Figma).

Nice to have software: 3D Modelling, Rendering, SketchUp, Blender and AutoCAD.

Location: Remote/London

  • This is predominantly a remote role, but with access to the office in London.
  • Attendance at the office for team collaboration may be required on occasion, up to once per week. There may also be a requirement to attend on‑site for events in the UK and Europe.
