We're looking for an experienced Senior Database Engineer to join a major financial services technology and data transformation programme. This is not a traditional BAU DBA role. You'll work closely with application teams and Data Architects to design, engineer and deploy database solutions into production, with a strong focus on automation, standardisation and modern engineering practices.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Engineer and deploy Oracle, PostgreSQL and NoSQL database solutions
  • Work with Cassandra, MongoDB and/or Couchbase
  • Build and configure database environments across development through to production
  • Automate database provisioning, configuration and deployments
  • Integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines
  • Support performance tuning, query optimisation and complex troubleshooting
  • Engineer for high availability, resilience, security and recovery
  • Support database migrations, upgrades and modernisation initiatives
  • Work closely with developers, architects and infrastructure teams

What We're Looking For

  • Strong hands-on Oracle and PostgreSQL experience
  • Experience with at least one of Cassandra, MongoDB or Couchbase
  • Strong database engineering, performance tuning and troubleshooting skills
  • Automation experience using Terraform, Ansible, Python and/or Shell
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and Git
  • Experience supporting highly available, business-critical systems
  • Strong understanding of database security, resilience and operational risk
  • Financial services, banking, capital markets or another regulated environment is highly desirable

The Person

You'll be a strong DBA who has evolved into a modern Database Engineer - technically hands-on, automation-focused and keen to replace repetitive manual processes with reliable, reusable engineering solutions.
