Head of Department - Construction & Apprenticeships

Salt College is seeking an ambitious and passionate Head of Department - Construction & Apprenticeships to lead and develop our growing department, ensuring outstanding outcomes for learners, apprentices and employers.
The Role
As Head of Department, you will play a key leadership role in driving excellence across both our Study Programmes and Apprenticeship provision.
- Lead, manage and develop the Construction & Apprenticeships department, including the line management of Apprenticeship Assessors, Trainers, Lecturers and Curriculum Staff.
- Design, implement and continually improve the construction curriculum for learners aged 16+, ensuring programmes meet industry standards, awarding body requirements and employer needs.
- Oversee the quality of apprenticeship delivery, including workplace reviews, teaching, learning and assessment, and continuous quality improvement.
- Support apprentices, adult learners, school leavers and learners with SEND and EHCPs, promoting an inclusive and positive learning environment.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, industry partners and key stakeholders to enhance learner opportunities and outcomes.
- Monitor departmental performance, learner achievement, quality assurance and compliance, driving continuous improvement across all provision.
What We Are Looking For
- A recognised construction qualification (minimum Level 2) in a trade such as Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plumbing or Electrical.
- A recognised teaching qualification (DET, DTLLS or QTLS).
- An Assessor and Verifier qualification, or willingness to work towards these.
- Significant construction industry experience, with experience delivering or managing construction training or apprenticeships.
- A strong understanding of apprenticeship standards, workplace assessment, curriculum development and quality improvement.
- Experience leading or managing a team, with the ability to motivate, develop and support staff.
- Experience supporting learners with SEND, including Autism, ADHD and other additional needs.
- A passion for education, leadership and helping learners achieve their full potential.
