A London local authority is seeking an experienced IT Applications Analyst to support a major Windows 11 migration and application remediation programme. The organisation is moving its desktop estate to Windows 11 and managing applications through Microsoft Intune. The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing applications throughout their lifecycle, including remediation, packaging, deployment, support, licensing compliance and retirement. You will work closely with internal IT teams, business directorates, licensing colleagues and a third-party application packaging partner to ensure applications are ready, tested and successfully deployed across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Application Packaging & Intune Deployment: Manage the Windows 11 application remediation workstream against the agreed application baseline. Track application packaging requests and progress with the third-party packaging partner. Coordinate source media, testing readiness and application sign-off. Coordinate application testing and UAT with IT engineers and business users. Deploy and manage applications through Microsoft Intune, including app groups, assignments and Company Portal. Maintain accurate application registers and remediation trackers as the single source of truth.
- Software Licensing & Application Management: Use SNOW Software Asset Management data to understand application usage across the organisation. Compare software licence holdings against actual usage and identify compliance gaps or over-provisioning. Maintain application retirement and rationalisation records. Identify opportunities to consolidate or remove applications that are no longer required. Support ongoing application lifecycle management and software compliance.
- Business Analysis & Reporting: Gather and document application requirements with directorates and service areas. Map current and future processes where application changes affect ways of working. Reconcile data from sources including HR systems, asset scans, SNOW and Intune. Build an accurate picture of users, devices and applications. Produce clear reports, trackers and dashboards covering progress, risks, issues and recommendations.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as an Applications Analyst, Application Support Analyst or similar within a large, complex organisation.
- Hands-on experience supporting a Windows 10 to Windows 11 migration or application remediation programme.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager application deployment.
- Understanding of application packaging formats including MSI, MSIX, App-V and Win32/intunewin.
- Experience coordinating application testing and UAT.
- Experience using SNOW Software Asset Management or a comparable SAM platform.
- Understanding of software licensing and licence compliance.
- Advanced Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables and data reconciliation.
- Strong experience maintaining accurate and auditable trackers.
- Experience managing third-party suppliers or delivery partners.
- Good knowledge of ITIL processes.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organisation and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Experience
- Local government or wider public sector experience.
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- Microsoft Endpoint Administrator (MD-102) or similar Microsoft certification.
- Experience with Microsoft 365.
- Exposure to Microsoft Copilot deployment.
- Experience with cloud print management.
