Data/ Database Engineer - RDBMS & NoSQL
Hybrid - 3 days onsite | Financial Services | Contract / Permanent
We're looking for an experienced Senior Database Engineer to join a major financial services technology and data transformation programme.
This is not a traditional BAU DBA role. You'll work closely with application teams and Data Architects to design, engineer and deploy database solutions into production, with a strong focus on automation, standardisation and
modern engineering practices.
What You'll Be Doing
- Engineer and deploy Oracle, PostgreSQL and NoSQL database solutions
- Work with Cassandra, MongoDB and/or Couchbase
- Build and configure database environments across development through to production
- Automate database provisioning, configuration and deployments
- Integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines
- Support performance tuning, query optimisation and complex troubleshooting
- Engineer for high availability, resilience, security and recovery
- Support database migrations, upgrades and modernisation initiatives
- Work closely with developers, architects and infrastructure teams
What We're Looking For
- Strong hands-on Oracle and PostgreSQL experience
- Experience with at least one of Cassandra, MongoDB or Couchbase
- Strong database engineering, performance tuning and troubleshooting skills
- Automation experience using Terraform, Ansible, Python and/or Shell
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and Git
- Experience supporting highly available, business-critical systems
- Strong understanding of database security, resilience and operational risk
- Financial services, banking, capital markets or another regulated environment is highly desirable

You'll be a strong DBA who has evolved into a modern Database Engineer - technically hands-on, automation-focused and keen to replace repetitive manual processes with reliable, reusable engineering solutions.
