Contract Role: Mainframe Performance and Capacity Analyst – Banking – Inside IR35
Location: UK (Remote) or Denmark (Hybrid – 10 days/month onsite)
Rate: £475-£575/day (Inside IR35, via umbrella)

Client: Global Consultancy, End Client in the Banking Sector
Salt is working with a global consultancy delivering high-level mainframe optimisation services to a major banking client. We are recruiting an experienced Mainframe Performance and Capacity Analyst to support proactive tuning and capacity planning across critical z/OS environments.
This role sits within a Performance Competence Centre, with responsibility for system and application performance diagnostics, workload forecasting, and tooling optimisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor, analyse, and tune mainframe system and application performance
- Conduct capacity forecasting and support infrastructure provisioning
- Lead performance data analysis and reporting using SMF, RMF, WLM
- Develop and maintain custom tooling and dashboards
- Liaise with technical teams to prevent capacity-related issues
- Create documentation, reports, and performance improvement plans
Essential Skills:
- 7+ years’ experience in mainframe performance tuning and capacity planning
- Strong knowledge of SMF, RMF, WLM, and performance management tooling (APA, MXG, SAS)
- Ability to analyse batch and online application performance
- Comfortable working in high-availability banking environments
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with ELK stack or in-house dashboarding tools
- Coding experience in REXX, Python, Assembler, or PL/1
- Familiarity with z/OS system internals and workload behaviours
Working Model & Compliance:
- UK-based contractors: Fully remote. Must work via umbrella (inside IR35)
- Denmark-based contractors: Hybrid model, 10 days/month onsite
- Background checks to be completed post-onboarding
