I am recruiting for an experienced Risk and Insurance Manager to join a London Local Government Authority within its Strategy, Improvement & Transformation function. This is a senior role responsible for leading the organisation's insurance and claims service, ensuring appropriate insurance protection is in place, claims are managed effectively and the organisation receives a high-quality, cost-effective service from its insurers, brokers and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the organisation's insurance and claims service
- Manage insurance programmes, policies, renewals and associated insurance funds
- Oversee claims across areas including employers' liability, public liability, property and motor
- Manage relationships with insurers, brokers, solicitors, loss adjusters and other external providers
- Monitor claims performance, identify trends and implement measures to reduce risk and cost
- Manage insurance budgets, forecasting, recharges, provisions and reserves
- Lead and develop a specialist team of insurance and claims professionals
- Act as the organisation's subject matter expert, providing advice to senior stakeholders and governance forums
- Ensure insurance arrangements comply with relevant legislation, regulation and professional standards
- Support procurement and performance management of insurance and specialist service providers
Essential Experience & Skills
- Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) or an equivalent professional insurance qualification
- Significant insurance management experience within a large, complex organisation
- Public sector or Local Government insurance experience is highly desirable
- Strong experience managing insurance programmes, funds and complex claims
- Extensive knowledge of liability and property-related claims
- Experience working with brokers, insurers, solicitors and external service providers
- Proven team leadership and people management experience
- Strong financial and budget management capability
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and influencing skills
- Experience preparing reports and presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders
