We are seeking an experienced Principal Integration Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of healthcare system integrations across clinical and diagnostic environments. This is a senior, hands‑on role requiring deep expertise in HL7 messaging, DICOM workflows, and healthcare interoperability, with a strong background in laboratory, radiology, and screening systems. You will act as a technical authority, working across vendors, clinical teams, and IT stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable integration solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement HL7 interfaces, DICOM integrations, and workflow solutions.
- Lead integration development using platforms such as Mirth Connect.
- Architect end‑to‑end interoperability across LIMS, RIS/PACS, order communications, and clinical systems.
- Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of integration pipelines.
- Act as Principal Engineer / SME for all integration‑related initiatives.
- Define best practices, standards, and governance for integration design.
- Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and proactive maintenance.
- Liaise with clinical stakeholders, NHS teams, and third‑party vendors.
- Translate clinical workflows into technical integration solutions.
- Manage vendor relationships and support escalations.
- Lead integration projects including upgrades, migrations, and new deployments.
- Oversee UAT, validation, and go‑live support.
- Provide 3rd level support for critical systems.
Required Skills & Experience
- Essential experience in healthcare / clinical IT systems.
- Strong expertise in HL7 (v2.x messaging, order/result workflows).
- Strong expertise in DICOM integrations and imaging workflows.
- Experience with integration engines (e.g., Mirth Connect).
- Experience with LIMS (e.g., TelePath or equivalent).
- Experience with RIS/PACS systems.
- Experience with order communications / e‑results.
- Proven experience leading integration architecture and delivery.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving capability.
- Experience with diagnostic platforms (e.g., screening systems, lab middleware).
- Knowledge of NHS clinical workflows and standards.
- Familiarity with middleware solutions (e.g., Abbott AlinIQ AMS), automation tracks and lab instrumentation.
