Contract Overview

Senior User Researcher (Freelance Contract) – we are hiring to support a subscription‑based digital product across web and mobile app. This hands‑on contract role focuses on discovery, monetisation, and subscription experience optimisation. It’s suitable for an experienced researcher comfortable working in ambiguity, influencing senior stakeholders, and translating research into clear product and design direction.

Contract Details

  • Start date: ASAP / mid‑January
  • Contract length: Initial 3 months (strong possibility to extend)
  • Location: London (Victoria)
  • Work pattern: Hybrid – 2 days per week on‑site (cannot be remote)
  • Travel: Regular travel to Nottingham is required
  • Work schedule: Full‑time, Monday‑Friday
  • Reporting to: Product and Design leadership
  • IR35: Inside IR35 (Only to use Umbrella, cannot use Ltd or Sole Trader)
  • Day rate: £500 per day

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end‑to‑end user research across subscription journeys on web and app
  • Plan and research to validate freemium models, pricing, and monetisation
  • Run discovery activities, including user interviews, usability testing, and concept validation
  • Design research plans covering both tactical improvements and strategic redesign initiatives
  • Analyse and synthesise research findings into clear, actionable insights
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, and senior stakeholders
  • Champion human‑centred design, accessibility, and usability across the product lifecycle

Required Experience

  • Background in subscription‑based products and/or e‑commerce preferred
  • Strong qualitative research skills (quantitative experience beneficial)
  • Confidently framing research questions, defining hypotheses, and selecting methodologies
  • Experience using remote research tools (e.g., UserTesting or similar)
  • Familiarity with analytics platforms

Rates depend on experience and client requirements.
