This role owns the Dynamics 365 platform end to end, acting as the bridge between the client organisation and external consultancies delivering change. Rather than being a pure hands-on developer, this position focuses on platform leadership, strategic planning, governance, and stakeholder management, ensuring Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform evolve in line with long-term business objectives. You will set the technical and delivery direction, manage suppliers, challenge designs where needed, and translate business strategy into a clear, prioritised Dynamics roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

  • Platform Ownership and Strategy
    • Own the Dynamics 365 and Power Platform roadmap, aligning future enhancements with business strategy and transformation goals.
    • Define and maintain platform standards, patterns, and governance across Dynamics 365 CE and Power Platform.
    • Lead forward planning, including platform upgrades, deprecations, scalability, and new Microsoft feature adoption.
    • Act as the internal authority on Dynamics 365 capabilities and limitations.
  • Client and Consultancy Interface
    • Serve as the primary technical and delivery interface between the client and external Dynamics consultancies.
    • Translate business requirements into clear, outcome-focused briefs for delivery partners.
    • Review and challenge proposed designs, estimates, and delivery approaches.
    • Ensure suppliers deliver solutions that are fit for purpose, scalable, secure, and aligned to platform strategy.
  • Delivery Oversight
    • Oversee Dynamics 365 delivery across configuration, customisation, integrations, and Power Platform components.
    • Ensure quality assurance, documentation, and adherence to agreed standards.
    • Support release planning, environment management, and deployment governance.
    • Provide escalation support for complex issues and risks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Work closely with senior stakeholders to shape demand and manage expectations.
    • Support prioritisation of the Dynamics backlog based on value, risk, and strategic alignment.
    • Communicate platform direction, constraints, and delivery progress clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Operational Assurance
    • Ensure the platform is stable, supported, and continuously improved.
    • Oversee 2nd and 3rd line support models delivered by internal teams or partners.
    • Ensure change, incident, and release processes are followed.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Strong experience owning or leading a Dynamics 365 CE platform in a complex organisation.
  • Proven ability to bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams.
  • Experience working with and managing external Dynamics consultancies or system integrators.
  • Strong understanding of Dynamics 365 capabilities, Power Platform, and Azure integrations.
  • Experience shaping platform strategy, roadmaps, and forward plans.
  • Confident reviewing solution designs and challenging suppliers constructively.
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Background as a senior Dynamics developer, technical lead, or solution architect.
  • Experience with enterprise governance, release management, and platform standards.
  • Exposure to large-scale transformation or multi-year change programmes.
  • Understanding of data migration, integration patterns, and DevOps pipelines.

What This Role Is Not

  • Not a pure hands-on developer role.
  • Not day-to-day ticket-based support.
  • Not supplier-led delivery without internal ownership.

Why This Role

  • Strategic ownership of a core enterprise platform.
  • High visibility with senior stakeholders.
  • Opportunity to shape the long-term Dynamics 365 direction rather than just deliver change.
  • Clear step into a platform leadership and strategy role.
