About the Role
Real ownership of a Microsoft 365 environment going through serious modernisation. Direct exposure to enterprise architects designing what most engineers only ever consume. A 12-month contract that genuinely accelerates a career, not a stopgap. You’ll be the third‑line technical lead, the intelligent client for an incoming managed service partner, and the person who lifts the wider workplace team's technical capability through documentation, mentoring and knowledge transfer.
Responsibilities
- Second‑line and third‑line support across Microsoft 365.
- Interrogating logs, troubleshooting Conditional Access, Intune compliance and Entra sign‑in issues, fixing or escalating with intelligent context.
- Own the modern Microsoft stack end‑to‑end: Intune, Entra, Conditional Access, Autopilot, Defender, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint.
- Be the intelligent client for the managed service partner, sitting alongside senior architects on high‑level and low‑level design, signing off statements of work, and owning post‑handover BAU.
- Upskill the wider workplace team through quick reference guides, knowledge articles and on‑the‑job mentoring.
- Maintain compliance posture as the organisation works toward formal frameworks, including ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus alignment.
- Document everything so the team grows alongside the technology.
Required Skills
- We’re looking for someone who has owned a Microsoft 365 environment inside an organisation, not someone who’s cleared tickets for clients in a managed service environment.
- At least 2 years of internal IT support in a professional environment.
- Hands‑on experience configuring (not just maintaining) Conditional Access policies, Intune configuration profiles, compliance policies, and Autopilot deployments.
- Confident troubleshooting from Entra sign‑in logs, Intune device compliance state, and Defender alerts.
- Comfortable explaining technical concepts to non‑technical colleagues without being condescending.
- The kind of mindset that, when faced with something you’ve not seen before, articulates an approach rather than stops at “I don’t know.”
- Relevant Microsoft certifications, or a working knowledge that shows you’d pass them tomorrow.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
Preferred Skills
- Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus or ISO 27001 hands‑on involvement.
- PowerShell troubleshooting comfort.
- Experience operating within ITIL service management frameworks.
- Exposure to formal compliance frameworks.
- Engagement with senior stakeholders.
