Salix Homes is seeking a Director of Building & Fire Safety to provide strategic leadership across building safety, fire safety and major remediation programmes. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for ensuring Salix Homes continues to meet its statutory, regulatory and customer commitments across a complex and high-profile area of the organisation. With 21 high-rise buildings and a significant focus on high-risk building safety, the role will play a central part in shaping future strategy, maintaining strong governance and ensuring safe, well-managed homes for customers.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Customer & Landlord Services, you will provide expert leadership across building safety management, fire safety management and remediation programme delivery. You will also support wider organisational priorities as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to corporate planning, performance, risk management and service improvement.
The role will require someone who can operate strategically while remaining close enough to operational delivery to understand risk, assurance, customer impact and contractor performance in detail. You will lead and support teams across fire safety, building safety and remediation, while ensuring Salix Homes maintains strong relationships with customers, contractors, partners, the Board and key stakeholders.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the strategic direction of building safety and compliance with relevant legislation, including requirements under the Building Safety Act 2022 and associated regulatory frameworks.
- Providing strategic oversight of fire safety across the wider stock.
- Overseeing major remediation programmes across high-rise buildings, including financial, risk, governance and delivery management.
- Acting as the named contact for the Principal Accountable Person.
- Supporting effective governance arrangements, including reporting to Boards and sub-committees.
- Driving continuous improvement, performance management and a positive culture of accountability.
- Ensuring strong customer engagement, particularly where building safety works, interim measures or remediation programmes are in place.
- Developing effective relationships with internal teams, external partners, contractors, suppliers and regulatory stakeholders.
- Supporting Salix Homes’ Corporate Plan through clear service planning, performance management and risk mitigation.
The successful candidate will bring senior leadership experience within building safety, fire safety, asset management, compliance or a closely related discipline. You will have a strong understanding of building safety legislation, fire safety requirements, high-risk buildings and the wider housing regulatory environment.
You will also bring experience of working with Boards and Committees, leading multi-disciplinary teams, managing significant budgets and delivering complex programmes in a regulated environment. Experience of remediation programmes, customer engagement around building safety, contractor management and golden thread requirements would be highly beneficial.
