The Classification & Compensation Specialist serves as Salisbury University’s central authority for position management, job analysis, classification, and compensation. The role ensures all positions are accurately designed, properly leveled, compliant with USM and state policies, and aligned with institutional workforce needs.

The incumbent evaluates job content, conducts internal equity reviews, performs market benchmarking, assesses organizational structure implications, and administers the University’s classification and compensation systems. This position provides clear, consistent processes and serves as the single point of accountability for all classification decisions, improving accuracy, compliance, transparency, and workflow efficiency across HR.

Authority and Accountability

The position requires analysis of sophisticated business problems to be solved with configuration solutions. Our roles are fast-paced and focus on analyzing challenging problems and coming up with solutions to a variety of operational critical issues, all while running various projects and initiatives. Decision making includes ensuring compliance with legal/regulatory and policy interpretation and application. As such, they must be very detailed, self-motivated, results oriented, and an excellent communicator. No direct reports or budgetary responsibility.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of professional HR work in job analysis, salary administration, or related functions, and experience performing professional classification and compensation analysis in a public sector or unionized environment.
  • Working knowledge of federal or state labor, wage and employment laws.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to understand the broad range of needs and various support requirements for delivering exemplary customer service to clients in a wide range of roles, across the institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in a higher education environment strongly preferred.
  • PHR or SPHR preferred.

The position is a full-time, exempt state role with comprehensive benefits. Priority will be given to applicants who apply by January 27, 2026. However, the position will remain open until filled.
