Relief Security Officer
Hours: Variable – approximately 12 to 40 hours per week including day and night shifts.
Location: Gatwick.
Clearance: Security clearance required prior to start date.
We are currently recruiting an experienced and dependable Relief Security Officer to support our site‑based security operations. This role is ideal for someone flexible, professional, and committed to delivering a high‑quality security service in a dynamic environment.
As a Relief Security Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our clients, customers, people, property and assets. You will be expected to uphold the highest professional standards and ensure that all duties are carried out safely, compliantly and in line with agreed assignment instructions.
Key Responsibilities- Security Operations
- Maintain a safe and secure site at all times, identifying threats or vulnerabilities and taking appropriate action to reduce risk.
- Control access and egress, ensuring robust checks of passes, visitor credentials and parking permits.
- Book in visitors and contractors, issue passes, maintain fire registers, and notify hosts in line with site procedures.
- Promote a strong and positive security culture across the site.
- Incident & Information Management
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records in the Daily Occurrence Book (DOB), including time on/off duty.
- Promptly report incidents to Control and Supervision, completing detailed Incident Reports as required.
- Report all customer complaints to supervision at the earliest opportunity.
- Protect sensitive and protectively marked material in line with client and company policies.
- Carry out daily audits of keys and key registers.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all statutory fire, health and safety regulations, promoting a proactive safety culture.
- Carry out duties in accordance with Assignment Instructions (AIs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and company policies.
- Escalate serious health and safety concerns where necessary in line with governance procedures.
- Customer Service & Support
- Build positive, professional relationships with clients, customers and colleagues.
- Present a professional, corporate image at all times, remaining courteous, helpful and approachable.
- Support reception services when required, including answering and managing switchboard calls.
- Previous experience in a security role.
- Excellent communication and record‑keeping skills.
- A flexible approach to working hours, including availability to cover varying shifts.
- A professional, reliable and customer‑focused attitude.
- Ability to operate within operational guidelines and governance frameworks.
- Willingness and eligibility to obtain required security clearance prior to starting.
- First Aid Certificate (Emergency First Aid at Work as a minimum)
- SIA Front Line Licence
- Security experience
- Practical experience of site emergency response procedures.
- Understanding risk - the identification and mitigation of vulnerabilities which may impact upon a client’s business.
- Ability to work under pressure
- Screened to BS7858 BPSS (Baseline Personal Security Standard) or higher subject to client request
- Identity check / Right to work / Employment history (last 3 years)
