Night Porter – Full Time / Part Time (11:00pm – 7:00am) at Salisbury Arms Hotel, Hertford. £ per hour plus tips.

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, self-motivated Night Porter to be the primary point of contact for guests and the hotel overnight. You will ensure the safety, security, and comfort of guests while carrying out reception, cleaning, and maintenance duties during the quiet hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and check in late-arriving guests; process late check-outs and early departures.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to guest requests, queries, and complaints throughout the night.
  • Conduct regular security patrols of the building, grounds, and car park.
  • Monitor CCTV, fire panels, and alarm systems; respond to alarms following hotel procedures.
  • Lock up and secure the premises at the appropriate time; unlock for early staff/guests.
  • Set up function rooms, restaurant, or breakfast area ready for the morning shift.
  • Carry out light cleaning duties (public areas, lobby, restrooms, bar and staff areas).
  • Deal with emergencies calmly, including contacting emergency services when required.
  • Assist with luggage, and other guest requests.
  • Liaise and hand over accurately to the morning team.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Previous hotel, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred but not essential.
  • Comfortable working alone and making sound decisions overnight.
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, professional manner under pressure.
  • Basic numeracy skills for cash handling and night audit tasks.
  • Physically able to carry out light cleaning, lifting, and walking the premises.
  • Flexible and reliable, with good timekeeping.
  • A willingness to learn basics of booking systems.
