Overview

An exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Infection to join the Northern Care Alliance Infection Sciences team and provide support for Infection services at Salford Royal Hospital. The on‑call rota is 1 in 10 covering the NCA, The Christie and Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trusts. The NCA has Infection Science laboratories at Salford and Oldham providing services in medical microbiology and virology to the above locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide services in clinical microbiology and infection prevention and control across the NCA, including duties based at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
  • Deliver comprehensive and efficient clinical and diagnostic microbiology services to the users of Salford Royal Hospital and The Christie; participate in initial and annual job planning with the Clinical Director of Infection Sciences, with a detailed breakdown of direct clinical care and supporting activities agreed.
  • Develop and implement service improvements, protocols and guidelines; contribute to innovation and service development.
  • Support on‑call duties and cross‑site responsibilities as required; some duties across the Northern Care Alliance.

Qualifications and experience

  • You will be either fully qualified and registered with the GMC or within 6 months of obtaining a CCT in medical microbiology (or medical microbiology and infectious diseases).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence colleagues in senior clinical and management roles.
  • Experience of implementing change, and of writing protocols and guidelines.
