We are currently recruiting an enthusiastic and compassionate GP to join our practice as part of a friendly, excellent dynamic forward-thinking multi-disciplinary team who is highly proficient in helping us achieve our mission to deliver high quality care to our patients in Salford. We are looking for someone to cover a 12 month maternity position covering 4 sessions a week, Monday is essential but could be flexible for either a Wednesday or Thursday.

We are a teaching practice, with a list of over 20,000 patients with 3 branch practices. Low admin, low visit, high achievers of QOF and Salford Standards. EMIS based practice with Ardens. Clinical staff will be based at a branch practice to ensure that there is continuity of care. Excellent opportunity for both new and experienced GPs.

About us

Salford Primary Care Together is an innovative and exciting organisation to work for with a friendly team and a focus on high quality patient care as well as staff wellbeing. We are a community interest company so our generated surplus is directed towards patient care. The company is responsible for providing Primary Care Services to over 20,000 patients, provides the Extended Primary Integrated Care Service for Salford (urgent care services including GP OOH, UTC, CAS) and also provides the Inclusion and Special Allocations Service for Salford and Trafford patients.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered patients. The post holder will uphold the principles of good medical practice as stated in the GMC statement of professional values and responsibilities:

Clinical responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications: General Practice Qualification
  • Experience: Previous experience working within Primary Care, Experience of working in deprived populations
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
