This is a crucial appointment on behalf of a well-established UK manufacturer of engineering solutions — a genuine market leader that has built an exceptional reputation over two decades on the back of product quality, engineering capability and outstanding service support.
They supply into some of the most demanding sectors in British industry - commercial automotive, off-highway and military — and count blue-chip OEMs and Tier 1 manufacturers among their client base. ISO 9001:2015 accredited and UK MOD approved, this is a business with the credentials to match its ambitions.
The company is entering a major growth phase - with a clear objective to double turnover - underpinned by a strategic investment in key account management, business development and sales leadership. This role is one of several senior commercial appointments driving that transformation.
As Key Account Manager, you will take ownership of a portfolio of approximately 60 accounts generating £1M – £1.5M in annual revenue - with a genuine and credible opportunity to double that figure through structured, proactive account development. This is not an account maintenance role. The business is moving from a reactive to a strategic commercial model, and this position sits at the heart of that shift.
You will be expected to get deep inside your accounts — understanding engineering challenges, procurement strategies and future project pipeline — and position the full manufacturing and service capability as the solution.
- Building and executing strategic account plans across a portfolio of medium to large industrial manufacturers
- Accurately forecasting and managing your pipeline through a structured sales process
- You will be an experienced, strategic account manager comfortable operating across complex, multi-stakeholder accounts in an industrial or technical manufacturing environment.
- A track record of growing revenue and wallet share across a spread of medium to large accounts — not just defending existing business
- The ability to conduct structured discovery sessions that uncover genuine business needs and create new commercial opportunities
- Experience dealing with multiple buying influences — engineering, technical, procurement and senior leadership — within the same account
- A consultative, insight-led selling style that builds long-term relationships rather than chasing short-term wins
- Commercial intelligence and confidence to engage credibly with senior stakeholders on both sides of the table
Timing matters in sales careers. This is one of those moments where a business with real substance - strong products, loyal clients, a 20-year track record - decides to invest properly in its commercial function. The people who join now will help shape how that function is built, grow their own portfolio from a position of genuine product strength, and grow with the business as turnover doubles.
If you are a strategic account manager who is tired of reactive selling, frustrated by a ceiling on your earnings, or simply looking for a role where your effort directly correlates with your reward — this is worth a conversation.
