Your role in our mission
We are looking for a Head of Compliance to join our team as soon as possible. This is a high-impact role available on either a permanent basis or a 6-month Fixed Term Contract (FTC) with the potential to transition into a permanent position. We are ideally looking for an immediately available candidate who can hit the ground running. Reporting to the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer, the Head of Compliance will support all areas of compliance, building on the strong foundation that has allowed us to gain and maintain multiple FCA authorisations in consumer credit and payment services. This is a foundational, high-impact senior role for a pragmatic expert who is comfortable providing strategic direction at a senior level whilst retaining a keen eye for technical rigour and detail.
What you’ll do
- Strategy & Infrastructure: Develop and enhance our compliance strategy and roadmap, including the enhancement of existing policies and drafting of new ones.
- Regulatory Horizon Scanning: Monitor the regulatory climate and specific FCA guidance for impact on the business to ensure appropriate changes are made.
- Consumer Duty: Maintain the firm’s Consumer Duty framework, ensuring compliance with PRIN 12 across the four consumer outcomes; own the annual Consumer Duty Board report and drive ongoing monitoring of customer outcomes data.
- Compliance Monitoring: Own the development and delivery of the compliance monitoring plan, identifying and escalating risk exposures on a timely basis.
- Expert Advice: Deliver clear, timely, independent, and pragmatic expert regulatory advice to the team and engage with product design processes to provide review and challenge.
- Financial Promotions: Own the financial promotions approval process; work closely with Marketing to review, approve and maintain compliant collateral in line with FCA financial promotion rules.
- Training: Lead the development, sign-off and delivery of regulatory training across the business to embed a strong compliance culture.
- Stakeholder Management: Support members of the leadership team and the Board in the discharge of their regulatory responsibilities; proactively manage the FCA supervisory relationship, including the facilitation and oversight of regulatory visits, and timely completion of FCA queries, regulatory returns, and data and information requests.
- Compliance Reporting: Produce and maintain Compliance MI escalated significant regulatory issues to business leadership and, where appropriate, the Board in a clear and accurate manner.
- SMCR: Manage and own SMCR administration, including the annual Certification cycle and Fitness & Propriety assessments. Maintain the Management Responsibilities Map and ensure all FCA Directory updates and regulatory filings are accurate and timely.
- Data Protection: Maintain the ROPA through annual business attestations and manage the DPIA register. You will also support the DPO by reviewing and providing compliance sign-off on all Data Protection Impact Assessments.
- Team Leadership: Lead the Compliance team, overseeing reporters' development and building the team in line with business requirements.
About you
- Expertise: You are a senior consumer credit compliance professional with approximately 7+ years of experience.
- Financial Crime: You possess anti-money laundering experience.
- Regulatory Knowledge: You have deep knowledge of the FCA Handbook, in particular CONC (Consumer Credit sourcebook), PRIN 12 (Consumer Duty), SYSC and DISP, together with substantial experience managing conduct risk across a consumer credit portfolio.
- Product Familiarity: You have working knowledge of the Payment Services Regulations and associated FCA requirements, as well as savings and protection products.
- Education: Ideally, you hold relevant professional compliance qualifications (e.g., ICA or CISI) or possess equivalent deep domain experience within a regulated financial services environment.
- Communication: You communicate complex regulatory matters clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders, including the Leadership Team and the Board, and can adapt your style effectively to a non-technical audience.
- Regulatory Liaison: You have experience managing the FCA supervisory relationship, including handling regulatory visits, information requests and proactive engagement with the FCA supervisory team.
