This is a remote position. We’re looking for an experienced Business Development Director to lead sales across Medical Communications, Market Access and Health Economics / Outcomes Research (HEOR) services. To be successful in this role, you’ll bring demonstrable sales experience in one — and ideally more — of these areas, along with a strong track record of winning and growing client relationships in the biotech and pharmaceutical space.
The opportunity: You’ll play a key role in expanding a fast-growing, specialist consultancy focused on improving how data, evidence and insight are developed and applied across the clinical development lifecycle. The business combines deep subject-matter expertise with modern approaches, including advanced analytics and emerging technologies, to help clients make better, faster decisions.
Reporting into senior commercial leadership, you’ll be instrumental in driving new business, shaping sales strategy, and expanding the company’s footprint across regions such as EMEA and the US. You’ll work closely with expert teams spanning Market Access, HEOR, Medical Communications and Medical Affairs, with opportunities to help build and develop teams as the business continues to scale.
Success in this role will come from your ability to navigate complex sales cycles, engage senior stakeholders, and bring real-world market insight back into the business to inform go-to-market strategy. If you thrive in a high-growth, entrepreneurial environment and enjoy building something meaningful, this role could be a great fit.
What you’ll be doing:
- Grow the customer base: Lead efforts to win new clients within the mid-market biotech sector, driving ambitious revenue growth and securing key new logos.
- Engage prospects: Proactively identify and engage prospective clients, leading outbound activity to assess alignment with the organisation’s solutions.
- Lead sales activity: Own the end-to-end sales process, including discovery, qualification, proposal development and contract close across new business, renewals and expansions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with leadership, delivery and operations teams to refine go-to-market messaging, materials and processes.
- Improve commercial efficiency: Help evolve sales processes, tools and materials to support scale and operational effectiveness.
- Support client continuity: Partner with delivery teams to ensure a smooth transition from sale to delivery and a positive client experience.
Requirements: This role is for you if you have:
- Relevant sector experience: Proven sales experience within Market Access, HEOR or Medical Communications, with a strong understanding of these environments.
- Solution-led selling capability: Experience selling professional services, platforms or complex solutions into biotech or pharma organisations.
- Complex deal experience: A track record of managing longer sales cycles with mid-six to seven-figure annual contract values.
- Value-based selling skills: The ability to articulate and sell value-driven propositions to senior stakeholders.
- Commercial rigour: Comfort with data-driven forecasting, pipeline management and qualification frameworks (e.g. BANT, MEDDICC).
- Strong communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience using CRM systems such as Salesforce or similar.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: A hands-on, adaptable approach and enthusiasm for helping shape materials, playbooks and strategy as the business grows.
- Proven impact: Evidence of delivering meaningful commercial impact within a scaling organisation.
- Innovative thinking: A natural inclination to improve, refine and evolve sales strategies and processes.
