Are you an apprentice trained Mechanical Fitter (Mechanical Engineer) passionate about problem solving and maintenance in a world‑leading manufacturing plant? At Saint‑Gobain we are looking for a Mechanical Plant Fitter to work on shifts in our Engineering Team.

You’ll be responsible for the mechanical engineering activities on site to keep production running and deliver to our customers on time, every time. You’ll often be the sole mechanical engineer on shift – a varied role with plenty of machinery and technology to keep you busy. Work as a Shift Mechanical Fitter on one of our Production teams, handling heavy machinery to precision equipment. You’ll solve problems, perform repairs, and collaborate with production team members and the wider engineering team.

Shift schedule: 4 on, 4 off days and nights, followed by 16 days off. In return you receive a competitive salary, bonus, healthcare options, and other benefits.

What we’re looking for:

  • A mechanical engineer with experience in a construction products manufacturing setting or similar.
  • Minimum NVQ Level III qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline, ideally apprentice trained.
  • Experience of welding, fabricating, bench fitting and machining.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills, able to collaborate with shift electricians, operators and other departments when needed.
  • Health & Safety focus – safety is paramount for our business.

What you will be doing:

  • Perform reactive and planned engineering work on equipment such as grinding mills, blow pots, homogeniser, conveyors, pneumatics, hydraulics, expanders, conveying systems, packing machines, palletisers, weighing systems, gas‑fired equipment, etc.
  • Use root‑cause analysis to solve problems and communicate relevant data to prevent recurrence of maintenance issues.
  • Perform robust handovers for the next shift – communication is key.
  • Act as an ambassador for Health & Safety, challenge concerns and work safely at all times.
