Brought into the hospice team as a Staff Nurse, you will provide holistic, person‑centred care to individuals and their loved ones, managing complex symptoms, and contributing to a culture of compassion, collaboration and creativity.
Job Responsibilities
- Leadership and Team Working: participate in the organisation of the nursing team and the ward in the absence of the Band 5B and/or Ward Sister/Charge Nurse; ensure adequate staffing of the ward; participate in change and development of practice; maintain effective communication networks throughout the hospice.
- Clinical Practice: provide appropriate physical, emotional and spiritual care in agreement with individuals and their loved ones; consult and liaise with the nursing and multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of holistic care; use evidence‑based practice when planning individual care; participate in the hospice quality assurance programme; recognise and report changes in an individual’s condition and respond appropriately to maintain effective symptom control; document care within NMC guidelines; maintain all clinical records and associated documentation.
- Communication: ensure effective communication with individuals, carers and other visitors; participate in discussion and communication with the clinical team when planning and evaluating care; use IT systems to keep patient records updated.
- Education of Self and Others: maintain awareness of professional developments in nursing and palliative care; mentor students and new staff; participate in the reflective practice programme.
- Professional Responsibilities: take responsibility for own professional development; maintain current registration with the NMC and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.
- Additional Requirements: demonstrate sensitivity and professionalism, maintain confidentiality, respect data protection duties, and comply with equal opportunity measures.
- Health and Safety: comply with the hospice health and safety policy, including smoking regulation.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse Level 1.
- ENB 998 or equivalent.
- ENB 931 or equivalent.
- ENB 285 or Diploma in Palliative Care.

Compensation
£30,575 to £33,455 per year, with enhancements for overnight, weekend and bank holiday shifts.

This position offers a full‑time (or part‑time) permanent role, with pro‑rata salary for part‑time hours. Enhancements are paid for shifts worked overnight, weekend and on bank holidays.
