We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work‑life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. Here, everything in our Sainsbury’s stores starts out in Sainsbury’s Commercial. Whether it’s the product, proposition, packaging or price, or the fact that something tastes great, our team is responsible for all food, non‑food and clothing items available in Sainsbury’s stores, digitally and on demand. It’s incredibly fast‑paced, people work together, take risks and are enthusiastic. The knowledge and experience you gain here could set you up for career moves anywhere else in the business. So, if you’re passionate about your products and hungry to learn, you’ll fit in perfectly.

Why join us

Since our first store opened in London in 1869, we’ve offered delicious food at competitive prices all over the country. We’ve been able to innovate and provide what our customers want, often before they even know they want it. That’s down to people like our Range Merchandisers — and soon, that might be someone like you.

What you’ll do

You’ll use your skills in data analysis to identify trends and turn them into meaningful insight. You’ll change what a range carries by combining historical data, range and space expertise, market insights and category knowledge with a commercial strategy. You’ll spot range opportunities and offers that customers want. You’ll also manage events for the range, support the Range Analyst with key initiatives across functions, and act as a business partner with stakeholders to project‑manage ranging and merchandising within their area.

Who you are

Analytical with project‑management experience and a solid understanding of merchandising principles and how to apply them. You’re adept at data analysis and spotting trends, comfortable handling multiple projects with different timelines and stakeholders. Your product, market and consumer knowledge will help you make decisions even when there are conflicting demands. You’ll build a network across the business and present a clear, convincing point of view. You’re comfortable with ambiguity and willing to try various approaches until you find the one that works.

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable experience in merchandising, with a strong understanding of merchandising principles and their application to commercial decision‑making.
  • Strong analytical capability, with experience interpreting data, identifying trends and converting insight into clear recommendations and actions.
  • Experience managing projects and competing priorities, delivering outcomes across multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels, building relationships and driving alignment across a range of teams.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and coordinate activity in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, using data and insight to influence decisions and support business objectives.

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you’ll be welcomed whatever you are and wherever you work. There’s always the chance to try something new, whether that’s within the evolving team or elsewhere across the business, and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working.

Starting off with a colleague discount, you’ll be able to get 10% off at Sainsbury’s, Argos, TU and Habitat after 4 weeks. This increases to 15% off at Sainsbury’s every Friday and Saturday and 15% off at Argos every pay day. We also support your future with a pensions scheme and life cover. You may be eligible for a performance‑related bonus of up to 10% of salary depending on performance.

Your wellbeing is important to us. You’ll receive an annual holiday allowance, and you can buy additional holiday. We also offer other benefits that help your money go further, such as season ticket loans, cycle‑to‑work scheme, health cash plans, pay advance, and access to a wide range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. There’s also an employee assistance programme.

Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you, which is why we give up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.
