We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work–life balance.

That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s.

We’re the first to say we do HR differently here.

For a start, we work as business partners and specialists.

Whether that’s making sure nearly 150,000 colleagues are paid on time, or shaping a strategy that helps us attract the right people, put them in the right place, and unlock their potential.

This is a fast-moving business, and our policies and rewards evolve with it.

That’s why we’re as flexible as we can be about where and when you work.

We’re also flexible about your future.

There’s always room to move up or across, if that’s what you want.

We really value different perspectives, so there’s no one opinion, no single path, and yours matters.

This role is a 24-month Fixed Term Contract. Travel to our London office minimum once per week, this may increase depending on projects/programmes.

Why join us

Joining us means stepping into a role where you shape the future of our Tech Division and turn strategy into real, measurable change.

As our People Transformation Manager - Tech you’ll be at the centre of one of the organisation’s most critical programmes, driving end‑to‑end thinking, accelerating delivery, and enabling the business to evolve with clarity, pace and purpose.

What you'll do

You’ll lead the cross‑functional engine behind the programme, bringing together the right people, the right insights and the right decisions to move from ideation to execution.

This is a role where your ability to diagnose, structure, and orchestrate complex change will directly influence how our Tech organisation grows, performs and delivers for the future.

You’ll design the frameworks that keep the programme moving: from governance and decision‑making to integrated delivery plans, KPIs and benefits tracking.

You’ll create the conditions for high‑quality problem‑solving, using an outcome‑centric and hypothesis‑led approach to unlock innovation and ensure we deliver the outcomes that matter.

Who you are

You’re a strategic transformation leader with experience delivering complex People Programmes end-to-end: scoping, structuring, engaging stakeholders, trialling, iterating and embedding change.

You underpin plans with robust business cases, manage risks confidently, and champion a transformation mindset that ensures work is set up with purpose and pace.

You bring clarity, pace and end‑to‑end thinking to complex, cross‑functional change.

You use an outcome‑centric, hypothesis‑led mindset to frame the right business questions, simplify ambiguity and unlock innovative solutions.

You’re a creative problem‑solver who is able to pull together the right insights and people and shape clear, compelling narratives that inspire action.

You build strong relationships quickly and know how to leverage the power of Sainsbury’s network to maximise collective expertise.

You’re an excellent cross‑functional operator who drives disciplined delivery, sets up the right ways of working, and accelerates progress through an agile, proactive approach.

Essential Criteria

  • People transformation experience: Proven ability to lead large‑scale, complex People/HR programmes end‑to‑end.

  • Curiosity & challenge: Comfortable stretching business thinking, challenging assumptions and driving innovative, end‑to‑end solutions.
  • Relationship‑building: Quickly builds trust and collaborative cross‑functional working environments.
  • Comfort working beyond own specialism: Confident operating outside traditional HR boundaries, navigating ambiguity and seeking solutions when the answer isn’t obvious.
  • Storytelling & narrative shaping: Able to craft clear, compelling narratives that inspire change and support critical governance engagement.

Desirable

  • People consultancy experience internally or with external clients.
