Every week we move millions of products to our customers at record speeds. Brilliant customer experiences at this kind of pace require fresh and appealing products to be available whenever and however our customers shop with us. In this area of our business, we help to make sure that happens. By engineering innovative, smart technology, we put the tools in our colleagues’ hands to power a global supply chain. Whether it’s wine from New Zealand or milk from the local dairy farm, our tech performs. We solve problems at scale, processing billions of records, predicting and planning to make our customers' lives easier. We keep our warehouses and stores operating smoothly around the clock because what’s important to our customers is important to us.

We work with one of the most valuable product data sets in the country, building scalable, high‑performance products that support an outstanding customer experience. You’ll be joining a team shaping the Commercial Product Data solution landscape and transforming how we manage product data, trading, and compliance. Our work spans global programmes, alongside building automated compliance data flows, vendor integrations, and platform capabilities that reduce manual effort and improve data quality. Different teams across logistics, digital, legal, and retail rely on this data in different ways, making data quality and integrity critical to how the business operates. This is a cross‑functional, high-impact space where product, engineering, legal, compliance, and commercial teams work closely together.

You’ll be expected to combine strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery, balancing short‑term priorities that keep the business trading compliantly with longer-term platform investments that scale and automate compliance across the business.

More about the role

This is an exciting role in a transformative space. We are on a mission to make good food joyful, accessible, and affordable for everyone, every day. To help us towards our North Star, you’ll be expected to:

  • Own end‑to‑end product discovery and delivery of Commercial Product Data initiatives managing new legislation and product data and system improvements, ensuring solutions meet requirements and improve data quality and operational efficiency.
  • Define product strategy and roadmaps, balancing immediate trading and compliance needs with longer‑term platform investment.
  • Translate business, legal, and operational requirements into clear, actionable product and engineering outcomes.
  • Lead cross‑functional working groups, aligning product, engineering, legal, compliance, and commercial stakeholders.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including supporting RFPs, vendor selection, and ongoing delivery with third‑party partners.
  • Make clear prioritisation decisions across complex initiatives, focusing teams on the highest‑value outcomes.

More about you

  • Experience working as a Product Manager, ideally delivering complex platforms, integrations, or data‑driven products.
  • Experience operating in complex environments, ideally involving regulatory, compliance, or high‑control domains.
  • Comfortable working directly with engineers, architects, and third‑party vendors to shape and deliver solutions.
  • Strong ability to translate complex business, legal, and operational requirements into clear, actionable product outcomes.
  • Proven prioritisation and decision‑making capability across competing demands and complex initiatives.
  • Confidence in setting expectations, making trade‑offs, and challenging stakeholders where needed.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to build strong relationships across cross‑functional teams.

As well as lots of on-the-job training and endless opportunities, you’ll get:

  • Colleague discount across our multi-brands – Sainsbury’s, Argos, and Habitat.
  • Holiday allowance.
  • Bonus scheme.
  • Pension plan.
  • Special offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers, and more.

Work-life balance is important to us, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role. We trust them to decide how, where, and when they work, combining remote and collaborative working with a flexible approach to hours, giving them plenty of time and space for life outside of work whilst delivering against our business goals.

Responsibilities

We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. Think about the scale it takes to feed the nation. The level of data, transactions, and variety involved. Then you’ll realise this is a modern software engineering environment, because it has to be. We’ve made significant investment in the standards and principles that shape how we work. We iterate, learn, experiment, and champion ways of working such as Agile, Scrum, and XP. So you can look forward to exciting opportunities across everything from AI to reusable tech.

Qualifications

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you’ll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there’s always the chance to try something new - whether that’s as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working.

When you join our team, we’ll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them:

  • If you ever need it, there is also an employee assistance programme.
