Working closely with Buying, Category Planning and Supply Chain, the team plays a key role in shaping how our products come to life in store. With a strong emphasis on innovation and continuous improvement, you'll be part of a team that is passionate about creating engaging and easy-to-shop environments for our customers. We are looking for a Merchandiser to join our Grocery Operations team on a 9 month Fixed Term Contract or secondment.

As a Merchandiser, you will be responsible for creating clear and visually appealing planograms that bring our ranges to life in store. You'll work closely with Buyers, Category Assistants, and Supply Chain teams to ensure the right products are in the right place, supporting ranging decisions and enabling stores to execute plans seamlessly.

Day-to-day, you will manage multiple workloads and deadlines across categories, updating planograms, supporting ranging activity, and communicating changes to key stakeholders. You will also act as a central point of contact for store and supplier queries relating to merchandising layouts, ensuring timely and accurate responses. This role offers great exposure to cross-functional working and is ideal for someone looking to build a career in merchandising.

You are highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities while working to tight deadlines. You're confident collaborating with a range of stakeholders and can clearly communicate updates, changes and challenges. You have a strong eye for detail and understand what makes merchandising visually effective and easy for customers to shop.

You are comfortable working with data and systems and are quick to learn new tools. You take a proactive approach to managing your workload, escalating where needed and finding solutions to challenges. An interest in retail and how customers navigate fixtures will help you succeed, alongside a willingness to continuously improve ways of working.

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet agreed deadlines across competing priorities
  • Demonstrable experience communicating with a range of stakeholders across a business
  • Ability to interpret and apply data using tools such as Excel or similar systems
  • Proven attention to detail when producing accurate and clearly presented outputs
  • Demonstrable understanding of how customers shop and how merchandising supports ease of navigation

Around here, there’s always the chance to try something new - whether that’s as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we’ll also offer you an amazing range of benefits.

Starting off with colleague discount, you'll be able to get 10% off at Sainsbury's, Argos, TU and Habitat after 4 weeks. This increases to 15% off at Sainsbury’s every Friday and Saturday and 15% off at Argos every pay day. We've also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You'll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 5% of salary, depending on how we perform.

Your wellbeing is important to us too. You'll receive an annual holiday allowance, and you can buy additional holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, pay advance (where you can access some of your pay before pay day) as well access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. And if you ever need it there is also an employee assistance programme.

Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you which is why we give up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.
