Finance Analyst – Sainsburys Tech

Make a valuable, visible difference. In this Financial Analyst Role, you’ll partner with Sainsbury’s Tech as it delivers the Sainsbury’s Next Level Strategy with Technology at its heart. We have the entrepreneurial, exploratory, and fast paced mindset of a start‑up, driving innovation within a FTSE100 company whose products are used by more than 70% of the UK population.
You will be a vital part of the Technology Finance team and will support the overall Change (Capex & Opex) reporting, analytics, and planning for Sainsbury’s Tech. Sainsbury’s Tech are bringing digital, technology and data together like never before to create amazing systems and technologies across Sainsbury’s, Argos and Habitat. The role will have an impact on anything from the way we run our stores to faster deliveries and innovative contactless check‑out technology.
What I Need To Do
- Work collaboratively with Tech colleagues to provide analysis and insights on all financial aspects of decision‑making in relation to Technology Change Reporting (Capex & Opex).
- Complete the Change Latest View and Period End actuals process in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy of data. Support the creation of insights and commentary on key movements across technology initiatives and projects.
- Maintain and improve financial controls including Fix16 and Fix6 processes, ensuring accurate budget transfers, reconciliations, and evidence documentation. Collaborate with stakeholders to reflect decisions in Planview and ensure compliance.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the importance of financial controls and governance.
- Support the creation and ongoing management of financial models, ensuring data integrity, robust analysis, and preparation of management packs.
- Support the creation of the Annual Budget and Corporate Plan.
- Complete timely and accurate ad hoc reporting and analysis as required across capital projects to support decision‑making.
- Continually challenge current methods of reporting to ensure stakeholders receive the most relevant and actionable insights. Bring a mindset of continuous improvement to deliver best‑in‑class reporting.
- Work alongside and support the wider Sainsbury’s Tech team on various financial projects.

- We are seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented Finance Analyst to join the Product Tech Team with a strong eye for detail and accuracy.
- Be highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and meet tight deadlines across recurring and ad‑hoc tasks.
- Beyond that, you are an ambitious professionally qualified or part qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA) with previous financial experience ideally within a complex organisation.
- You have good financial acumen with excellent analytical skills.
- Strong Excel and numerical skills, with an aptitude for turning data into analysis and insight and being able to clearly articulate this through your communication.
- You’ll need to be an effective finance partner/analyst demonstrating communicating, influencing and challenging skills.
- You will also be self‑motivated team player with a positive attitude and the ability to prioritise and respond accurately under pressure.

Essential Criteria
- Must be a professionally qualified or part‑qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, or CIMA), or actively working towards qualification.
- Proven track record of delivering financial analysis, reporting, and planning in a large or complex business environment.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and numerical analysis, with the ability to transform data into actionable insights and present findings clearly.
- Highly organised, able to manage recurring and ad‑hoc tasks simultaneously, maintaining accuracy and timeliness under pressure.
