At Argos, we’re a digital‑led UK retailer that keeps pushing boundaries to meet every generation with what they want, how and when they want it. As a market leader in general merchandise, serving millions of customers through our website, app, same‑day delivery and Click & Collect services, we offer real opportunities to learn, grow and shape your career.

The Technical & Ethical team ensures our General Merchandise and Clothing products are safe, high‑quality and responsibly sourced. Working closely with suppliers, sourcing teams, designers and buyers, we play a key role in shaping products our customers love while upholding brand standards and meeting sustainability commitments.

In this role, you’ll manage the development and delivery of product ranges across Sainsbury’s Argos, ensuring quality, safety and legality at every stage. You’ll work with colleagues across Buying, Design, Sourcing, Supply Chain and Retail to bring products to market that meet customer expectations and commercial goals. You’ll lead product evaluations, competitor benchmarking and risk assessments, ensuring technical approvals stay on track. You’ll also analyse returns and customer feedback to drive continuous improvement and support delivery of category strategies and sustainability plans. For Lead Technologist roles, you’ll provide day‑to‑day leadership, coaching and development for a small team.

You’ll bring strong technical expertise, with the ability to balance detail, risk and commercial considerations. You’re confident managing multiple priorities, solving problems proactively and building strong relationships across teams and suppliers. You’ll be comfortable working at pace, communicating clearly and using data and insight to make informed decisions. You take ownership, embrace change and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and customer focus.

Essential criteria:
  • Experience working in a technical environment
  • Ability to deliver high‑quality technical outputs with strong attention to detail
  • Effective risk, due‑diligence and issue‑resolution capability
  • Strong planning, prioritisation and organisational skills
  • Confident communicator able to work effectively with suppliers and internal teams

Please note there will be occasional travel to Bradwell as part of this role.

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you’ll be welcomed whatever you are. There’s always the chance to try something new, whether that’s as part of an evolving team or elsewhere across the business. We take development seriously and promise to support you. We recognise and celebrate colleagues who go the extra mile and where possible offer flexible working. When you join our team, we’ll also offer an amazing range of benefits.

Starting off with a colleague discount, you’ll be able to get 10% off at Sainsbury’s, Argos, TU and Habitat after 4 weeks. This increases to 15% off at Sainsbury’s every Friday and Saturday and 15% off at Argos every payday. We’ve also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You may be eligible for a performance‑related bonus of up to 10% of salary, depending on how we perform. Your wellbeing is important to us too. You’ll receive an annual holiday allowance, and you can buy additional holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, pay advance (where you can access some of your pay before payday) and access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. There is also an employee assistance programme. Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you, which is why we give up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.
