We'd all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That's waiting for you at Sainsbury's. Think about the scale it takes to feed the nation. The level of data, transactions and variety involved. Then you'll realise this is a modern software engineering environment, because it has to be. We've made significant investment in the standards and principles that shape how we work. We iterate, learn, experiment and champion ways of working such as Agile, Scrum and XP. So you can look forward to exciting opportunities across everything from AI to reusable tech.

Please Note - This is a 12 month FTC position.

Want to solve really interesting problems at huge scale? Want to learn from the best and be challenged to think differently every day? Want to work hand in hand with development teams where you drive success and return to the business? Want the flexibility to work at home and in an office where it helps you meet your work and life commitments?

Be part of our Collections and Returns vision. In Sainsbury's Tech, we power the UK's leading collections and returns experiences across Argos, General Merchandise, and partner brands. Returns are a critical part of the customer promise, and a major driver of cost, trust, and loyalty at scale. Collections and Returns is a vital part of our company strategy. With Argos recognised for speed, value, and excellent service, returns must meet the same bar while managing operational complexity, cost‐to‐serve, and store realities. This is a highly visible product space with real commercial impact. What we build directly affects millions of customers, thousands of colleagues, and the bottom line.

The Role: As Product Manager in Returns, you will own key products within the Collections & Returns portfolio, shaping the strategy, roadmap and day-to-day delivery of the capabilities that improve customer outcomes while simplifying life for store colleagues. You'll work at the heart of the returns ecosystem, spanning digital journeys, in-store tooling, automation, and integrations. Balancing customer needs, commercial performance, and long-term platform sustainability.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Owning and delivering a clearly defined product vision and roadmap for key Argos Returns journeys
  • Developing deep understanding of customer and colleague needs across in-store and digital returns
  • Prioritising work based on customer impact, cost-to-serve, operational efficiency and risk
  • Driving simplification and automation of complex or manual returns processes
  • Working closely with Engineering, Design, Architecture, and Delivery to ship iteratively
  • Using data, experimentation and agreed KPIs to guide prioritisation and measure outcomes
  • Collaborating with Stores, Operations, Fraud, Customer Services and Commercial teams
  • Working with adjacent product teams to deliver cross-cutting Returns initiatives

How you'll succeed:

  • You're focused on outcomes over output for customers and colleagues
  • You can translate a clear vision into a prioritised, deliverable roadmap
  • You understand and surface trade-offs between speed, cost, experience, and risk
  • You're comfortable operating in a store-led, operationally complex environment
  • You use data to challenge assumptions and inform decisions
  • You're technically curious and can translate between customer problems and technology solutions
  • You collaborate effectively across product, tech, and operational stakeholders

In return you'll get:

  • Colleague discount across the multi-brands – Sainsbury's, Argos and Habitat
  • Pension plan
  • Special offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers and more

We've adopted a hybrid model, coming together for collaboration and to get to know each other better. We're working flexibly – have a chat with us about what you need. We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you'll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there's always the chance to try something new - whether that's as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we'll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them: Starting off with colleague discount, you'll be able to get 10% off at Sainsbury's, Argos, TU and Habitat after 4 weeks. This increases to 15% off at Sainsbury's every Friday and Saturday and 15% off at Argos every pay day. We've also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You'll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 10% of salary, depending on how we perform. Your wellbeing is important to us too. You'll receive an annual holiday allowance, and you can buy additional holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, pay advance (where you can access some of your pay before pay day) as well access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. And if you ever need it there is also an employee assistance programme. Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you which is why we give up to 26 weeks' pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks' pay for paternity leave.
