Location: Manchester or London Store Support Centre & Home – colleagues go into the office 1-2 days per week on average.

Joining Sainsbury's as the Finance Manager - Control Assurance (Design) means being part of a dynamic team dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the financial control framework of one of the UK's leading retailers. As a qualified accountant, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels, providing guidance on controls, driving process improvements, and supporting compliance efforts. What you’ll do

  • You will play a key role in supporting the development and maintenance of the company’s financial control framework.
  • You will collaborate with various stakeholders to identify and implement controls across ad hoc change and transformation projects, conduct end-to-end process walkthroughs, and work towards resolving any design gaps.
  • Your expertise in process, risk, and control principles will be crucial as you support the compliance efforts across the Group, ensuring adherence to the Group Financial Control Framework.
  • Additionally, you will lead improvement activities around compliance and governance tools, maintain relationships with internal audit teams, and provide leadership and guidance on projects.
  • Your ability to communicate effectively, make recommendations for process efficiency improvements, and drive remedial actions for control deficiencies will be essential in this role.

Who you are

  • You are a qualified accountant with a strong background in process, risk, and control principles, particularly within the context of the COSO Framework and UK Corporate Governance Requirements.
  • Your exceptional communication skills and proactive collaboration abilities enable you to work closely with stakeholders at all levels, identifying deficiencies, making informed recommendations, and driving remedial actions to ensure effective financial control framework compliance.
  • With your experience in business process mapping and a track record of providing leadership, you play a crucial role in supporting the development and maintenance of robust financial controls, contributing to the overall governance and compliance objectives of the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification)
  • Demonstrable experience applying risk, process and control frameworks, including knowledge of COSO principles and UK Corporate Governance requirements
  • Proven ability to evaluate control environments, identify control deficiencies, and provide recommendations that support the implementation of remedial actions
  • Experience mapping business processes and controls and documenting control activities within a complex business environment
  • Evidence of leading teams, projects or workstreams, and collaborating with stakeholders at varying levels to influence outcomes and support control objectives
