From product, proposition, packaging and price, to whether it meets our sustainability commitments or simply tastes great, our team is responsible for all food, non-food and Clothing items available in Sainsbury’s stores, online and on demand. It’s an incredibly fast-paced environment. People here are in it together and aren’t afraid to take risks. The knowledge and experience you gain here could set you up for career moves anywhere else in the business. So, if you’re passionate about your products and just as hungry to learn, you’ll fit in perfectly.

Ready to design babywear/boyswear collections that feel fresh, commercial and genuinely connected to what kids want to wear right now? We’re looking for a talented Babywear/Boyswear Designer with a confident multi-product skillset, a great eye for graphics and an instinct for trend that translates into best-selling products.

If you love creating energetic, on-brand ranges, thrive when working hands-on with suppliers, and want to own and grow a defined area, this is a fantastic opportunity to make real impact within a collaborative and fast-moving design team.

What you’ll do:

  • You’ll support the Senior Designer in delivering the seasonal design vision for Babywear/Boyswear, taking full ownership of the area when needed - a smaller but high-potential category where you can really run with product direction.
  • From mood boards and colour stories to shape development, graphics and print, you’ll translate macro and category trends into cohesive, commercial ranges that excite our customers.
  • You’ll create detailed design packs and work face-to-face with our global suppliers to drive right-first-time samples, strong engineering and cost-effective product solutions.
  • Partnering closely with Buying, Technical, Sourcing and Merchandising, you’ll guide each style from first sketch to launch, keeping the critical path on track and ensuring every product meets aesthetic, fit, quality and cost expectations.
  • You’ll also keep the wider business informed on key trends, hero lines and design updates, supporting Marketing, Digital and PR in bringing product stories to life.
  • You’ll stay immersed in babywear/boyswear culture - shopping the market, visiting galleries, trend fairs and inspirational stores, and keeping your finger firmly on what’s happening in graphics, print and youth culture.
  • Sustainability will be a continuous consideration in your design approach.

Requirements:

  • Proven childrenswear/kidswear design experience, ideally within a retailer or supplier environment, with a track record in multi-product design.
  • Strong graphics capability - able to spot emerging graphic and print trends for older boys and translate them into commercial product.
  • Hands-on supplier experience, including developing product face-to-face with suppliers and creating clear, detailed design packs.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of UK and international kidswear retail dynamics.
  • Technical understanding of garment construction, product engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and relevant design tools.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and maintain accuracy at pace.
  • A proactive, collaborative and positive approach, with proven experience owning and driving forward your own category.
  • Curiosity, creativity and a commitment to continuous learning and sustainability.

If you’re excited by the idea of shaping babywear/boyswear that balances trend, commerciality and creativity - and want to help us deliver ranges that surprise, delight and exceed customer expectations - we’d love to see your work. Please upload a small selection of your portfolio alongside your CV when applying.
