Overview
In this role you build and maintain production-grade ML pipelines and infrastructure to deploy models across Sainsbury’s products. You collaborate with Data Scientists and senior engineers to operationalize experiments, ensuring reliability, scalability, and quality. You implement MLOps practices for CI/CD, monitoring, and incident response, driving performance and cost efficiency. You work in a modern software engineering environment, shaping data-driven capabilities that impact customers at scale. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role with a clear impact on product delivery and system reliability.

Responsibilities
- Build and maintain production ML pipelines and infrastructure for reliable model deployment
- Implement ML systems following architectural standards and defined frameworks
- Collaborate with Data Scientists to translate experimental code into production-ready solutions
- Contribute to MLOps practices including CI/CD, model versioning, monitoring, and alerting
- Optimize ML system performance through resource tuning and monitoring feedback
- Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and documentation
- Identify and escalate technical debt and operational issues in ML systems
- Respond to incidents and assist diagnosis/resolution of production issues under guidance
Key requirements
- Strong proficiency in Python frameworks
- Cloud platforms experience (AWS and/or Azure) and Docker
- DevOps tooling for CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions)
- Airflow orchestration
- Infrastructure as code (Terraform)
- Software engineering best practices (Git, testing, code review, documentation)
- MLOps lifecycle knowledge (experimentation, deployment of batch and realtime systems)
- Data engineering fundamentals including data pipelines and data platforms (DBT, Kafka)
- Incident response or system troubleshooting experience
