About the team

Our Transformation team sits at the heart of Sainsbury’s strategy, playing a pivotal role in shaping and delivering programmes of work that will transform and grow our business. The team’s purpose is to translate our strategic vision into meaningful change, collaborating across functions to build a more competitive, profitable business and deliver a market‑leading customer experience. You’ll join a dynamic group that thrives on curiosity, innovation, and a passion for making things better, all while fostering strong connections with colleagues throughout the organisation—including Finance, Business Partners, and cross‑functional programme teams.

More about the role

As a Transformation Manager, you’ll play a crucial part in shaping and delivering our three‑year Transformation agenda. Reporting to the Head of Transformation, you will lead cross‑functional teams in process transformation projects, from ideation through to delivery, ensuring our major strategic initiatives are executed at pace. Day‑to‑day, you will be involved in leading process transformation projects, engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the business, organising and running workshops, documenting current processes, and presenting at steering committees. The projects span across the business, designing and embedding new processes and ways of working to support the growth and efficiency of our business. You’ll champion agile and outcome‑focused approaches, bring together the right people and insights, and ensure programmes are set up for success from the outset.

More about you

You are a strategic thinker with a growth mindset, driven by curiosity and an appetite for continuous learning and process improvement. You can demonstrate experience of leading cross‑functional teams to deliver process change, using data and insight to inform decisions and drive outcomes. You communicate with clarity and influence, build strong relationships, and thrive in collaborative, fast‑paced environments. Your approach is outcome‑centric, hypothesis‑led, and focused on delivering tangible improvements for both customers and colleagues. You’ll demonstrate collaborative and agile ways of working, acting as a role‑model in fostering a positive, inclusive team environment. You are resilient, organised, open to learning, and equipped to galvanise others around a shared vision for change. Above all, you live our core behaviours: owning your commitments, making things better, and treating everyone with respect and care.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven track record of delivering cross‑functional change programmes at significant scale (e.g., programmes with £20m+ benefits or comparable impact).
  • Proven track record of Process or Continuous improvement methodologies and the ability to map and understand processes.
  • Demonstratable experience of shaping and implementing major transformation or change projects.
  • Ability to use data, insight and external innovation to inform complex decision‑making and programme delivery.
  • Skilled in synthesising information, identifying strategic issues, and presenting recommendations in clear, structured written and verbal communication.
  • Evidence of building relationships and delivering at pace in collaborative, cross‑functional teams at all levels.
