Our On-water Operations Team plays a critical role in the SailGP Tour, from ensuring on-water incident response to off-shore communication with our vessels. We’re looking for technically skilled, hands-on individuals to join the team in a unique dual role: working both onsite at our SailGP Technologies facility in Southampton and travelling worldwide as part of the SailGP Tour. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong trade or mechanical experience who wants to apply their skills in a fast-paced, high-performance sporting environment.
Relevant Skills and Experience:
- Background in On-Water Operations from Boat handling experience and ability to operate a RIB independently.
- RYA PB2 level (or equivalent).
- Proficiency in operating VHF radio.
- Basic deckhand competency and experience working on RIBs.
- Hands-on experience with the build and pack down of race boats.
- Competency working around heavy machinery and cranes.
- Hands-on experience with power tools and heavy machinery.
- Competency working on docks and around water.
- Ability to monitor dock layouts and ensure safety regulations are met.
- Ability to follow directions from the Managers onsite and provide course condition updates.
- Adaptability to changing weather conditions and race boundaries.

Roles may include but not limited to:
- Course Marshall: Responsible for the setup and control of the racecourse and exclusion zone boundary, including positioning and verifying all boundary markers in line with race management requirements.
- Communication Lead: This role is a critical part of the on-water rescue team, responsible for managing clear and effective communication between the assigned rescue asset, Race HQ (Tiny), and Event Control.
- Markset Junior: Responsible for supporting the build, preparation, deployment, and recovery of race marks and associated equipment.
- Chase Junior: Supports the On-Water Operations team by assisting with the setup and pack-down of chase boats, ensuring vessels are clean, fuelled, and operationally ready, and helping manage equipment preparation and stowage.
- Dock Assistant/Communication Lead: A dual-role position supporting both dockside and on-water operations, responsible for the preparation and setup of the dock and associated equipment, working closely with the Fleet Ops Assistant during setup and pack down, supporting flubber operations, and managing “touch-and-go” dock activity outside of sailing hours to ensure safe and efficient vessel movements.
