At Sagentia Defence, we deliver specialist science and technology consultancy services to support defence's most complex programmes. We work in close partnership with national government bodies, international institutions, and global prime contractors, both as independent advisors and as product developers. We bring experience and deep expertise across the full CADMID lifecycle and UK MOD Approval processes, ensuring mission-critical needs are met rapidly.
We are looking for a talented, ambitious and self-motivated consultant with a proven track record in winning and delivering work in UK Defence. This is a great opportunity for the right individual who will be a focal point for our Analysis & Innovation service offering. To be successful in this role you will lead business development and client relationship management activities drawing upon your broad technical/scientific knowledge and experience of selling R&D consulting services to both industry and government. You will report to our VP Defence, providing input to the strategy and will ultimately be responsible for profitable sales and successful project delivery within nominated accounts and sub-sector campaigns. A majority of our clients will be UK-based and it is expected that you will be travelling around 25% of your time.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development within UK Defence: Collaborate with Business Development Managers within the Group; source new sales leads through proactive sales & marketing activities. Engage with potential clients to understand their needs and sell the Sagentia Defence value proposition. Own and coordinate the writing and delivery of compelling sales & marketing material (e.g. proposals, case studies, capability decks).
- Account management, within a set of nominated key accounts: Seek opportunities within target accounts to grow additional revenue streams for Sagentia Defence. Maintain sales and revenue forecast. Network widely to maximize exposure to Sagentia Defence within the client's organisation. Ensure issues are addressed that are raised by the client or by Sagentia Defence.
- Technical/Domain Leadership within specific market sub-sectors: Establish areas of opportunity within specific market sub-sectors, working with our marketing team. Feedback market information to the technical & marketing teams to support product and service development. Oversee project delivery. Oversee and where necessary provide high level contribution to project delivery ensuring it meets client requirements. Link client stakeholder needs with technical delivery of project and where appropriate translate technical delivery into client language. Where appropriate lead delivery meetings/facilitate workshops etc.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Degree qualifications from an Engineering or Science background.
- Consultancy experience within the UK Defence industry, delivering consultancy services through direct client side structures or through procurement frameworks.
- A track record in successful bid management and proposal development.
- Demonstrable experience securing consultancy work packages in the various UK Defence domains, collaborating with partner organisations where necessary.
- Understanding of the UK Defence sector, with strong awareness of current and future key UK MOD programmes and initiatives.
- An established and effective relationship network within this sector.
