Overview
In this role you partner with product, engineering and go-to-market teams to enable safe, compliant delivery of Sage’s innovative technology solutions. You will advise on AI, data privacy, IP, and other tech-law matters, supporting the product lifecycle from design to launch. You’ll help scale legal support through pragmatic guidance and AI-powered tooling, contributing to a collaborative, cross‑functional legal function. The position sits in the Product & Technology Legal team and offers hybrid work in Newcastle or London. This is an opportunity to shape how legal services support cutting-edge technology globally.

Responsibilities
- Provide commercially focused legal advice across the product development and readiness lifecycle for new and existing products
- Partner with product, engineering and go-to-market teams to support delivering innovative technology solutions
- Advise on AI, IP, data privacy and related technology law matters
- Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial, technology, procurement and partner agreements
- Support implementation of legal compliance for products, financial services and marketing regulation
- Create practical guidance, training and self-service resources for colleagues
- Collaborate with specialist legal teams across OGC for coordinated support
- Identify opportunities to improve legal processes and leverage AI-powered tools to boost efficiency
- Support product teams on emerging technologies including generative and agentic AI
Key requirements
- Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent) with a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience
- Experience providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice in a technology-related environment
- Knowledge of AI, IP and data privacy, including GDPR and EU AI Act
- Strong drafting, negotiation and commercial legal skills (in-house or private practice)
- Ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders
- Strong collaboration and relationship-building across multiple teams and jurisdictions
- Growth mindset with enthusiasm for learning, innovation and process improvement
