We are looking for a Cloud Operations Manager to lead the teams responsible for the availability, performance, and security of Sage's global cloud products. You will manage a distributed DevOps-oriented organisation that ensures our customers can rely on our services 24/7 to run their businesses. This is a strategic and people-focused leadership role, combining operational excellence, technical depth, incident leadership, and cross-functional collaboration across engineering, product, architecture, and security teams. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in our Newcastle or Barcelona office.
Your First 90 Days
- 30 days: Understand the product portfolio, Cloud Ops operating model, incident processes, and team structure.
- 60 days: Take ownership of key services, lead incident reviews, help shape service improvements, and begin building strong cross-functional relationships.
- 90 days: Fully lead the Cloud Ops team, influence product delivery strategy, and drive operational maturity, automation, and customer experience improvements.

You will lead a global team of Cloud Operations & DevOps Specialists who safeguard our live services. The team partners closely with Product Delivery, Architecture, Security, and Engineering to ensure our products are resilient, performant, secure, and continuously improving. You will also be an active member of the Cloud Operations senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities Snapshot of Your Day-to-Day
You will lead and develop a global Cloud Operations team, ensuring Sage's online products remain secure, available, and high-performing. You will work closely with engineering and product teams to shape service design, drive automation and innovation, lead service reviews, manage major incidents, oversee budgets, and champion a world-class customer experience.
Requirements
- Proven experience leading Cloud Operations, DevOps, or Site Reliability teams
- Strong understanding of live service operations, incident management, change control (ITIL), and SLA/SLO-driven environments
- Ability to collaborate and influence at all levels, including senior stakeholders
- Experience with large-scale cloud services, security standards, and distributed systems
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
- Strong technical grounding in cloud operations (Azure, AWS or equivalent)
- Experience working closely with Product, Commercial, and Engineering teams
- Ability to analyse complex problems quickly and make informed decisions
- Financial awareness (budgets, cost optimisation, cross-charging)
This role will require you to be available for escalations during incidents. As your team is on call 24/7, this may require you to join calls and help manage.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with automation, CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, and DevOps tooling
- Background with web/cloud technologies (e.g., .NET, JavaScript, Rails, HTML/CSS)
- Knowledge of Linux and/or Windows Server in a cloud environment
- Experience with modern databases (MySQL, MSSQL, NoSQL)
- Prior people leadership experience in a global or distributed team
- Exposure to Agile methodologies and SDLC processes
- Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience
