We're looking for a Senior Engineer to lead the design, development, costing, and integration of innovative control and SCADA systems across a diverse range of industries. Working on complex, high-value projects, you'll combine your technical expertise with a strategic approach to deliver robust, high-quality automation solutions for our clients.

You’ll provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with Project Managers to plan delivery, break down work packages, and guide engineering teams to successful outcomes. As a senior member of the team, you'll mentor and support junior engineers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

You will:

  • Improve engineering standards and ensure compliance throughout all project stages.
  • Lead the design and development of complex system architectures, designs, and detailed specifications to meet client requirements.
  • Integrate various subsystems and components to form a cohesive system, ensuring overall system compatibility and performance.
  • Develop and execute system testing and validation routines to verify that systems meet design specifications and performance criteria.
  • Prepare, maintain and review comprehensive technical documentation, including requirements, design specifications, test plans, operator manuals and quality documentation.
  • Analyse and translate client requirements into functional and non-functional specifications independently or as a part of a larger team.
  • Estimate tasks effort and ensure delivery meets project expectations for cost, quality, and schedules.
  • Flag risks related to project quality or deliverables to the Project Manager.
  • Assist the proposals and sales teams in estimating the engineering effort required for new opportunities and answering technical questions.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, automation engineers, Consultants, and project management, to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Investigate new technologies, best practices, and quality improvements to stay up to date with controls and SCADA trends.
  • Engage in continuous learning to develop technical skills and knowledge relevant to system integration.
  • Encourage and champion changes and improvements as opportunities arise.
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations are followed and promptly elevate situations where procedures are not adhered to.
  • Support and commissioning activities at client sites.
  • Participate in agile team activities, including maintaining planning boards and daily scrums; being ready to provide a concise and accurate status report and estimations of ongoing tasks.
  • Be capable of conducting quality and technical review on peers.
  • Assist with any other duties reasonably requested and in line with the requirements of the post.

We are looking for:

Experience and Knowledge

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in controls engineering or SCADA design.
  • In depth knowledge of Software Packages relevant to the role of a Senior Controls Engineer, PLC packages, HMI packages and OPC Packages.
  • In depth knowledge of Ignition (Vision or Perspective) or similar SCADA technologies.
  • Database configuration and querying experience, e.g., MySQL, MS SQL.
  • Experienced in creating URS, FDS, SDS, Testing Documents, User Manuals and RAMS.
  • Experience in scripting using Python, Java or similar languages.
  • A full UK driving licence or indication of working towards one.

Skills and Abilities

  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills for effective collaboration and client interaction
  • Good problem-solving skills (technical and client); experience of troubleshooting, fault finding and fixing in operational/production environments.
  • Ability to make design decision with authority and raises concerns and risks to BU director.
