About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Junior Software Engineer to join our growing technology team. You will play a key role in developing and maintaining our core platform, working on a variety of projects that impact millions of users. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn and grow your skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will be mentored by senior engineers and given the opportunity to contribute to real-world projects from day one.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain features for our e-commerce platform using PHP and Python.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new systems and features.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving our development processes.
  • Work with AWS Lambda and other cloud technologies to build scalable and reliable systems.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues, ensuring the smooth operation of our platform.
  • Continuously learn and stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends.
  • Contribute to the improvement of our existing codebase and infrastructure.

You will be a team player and will be willing to get stuck in, one of our key values at Sportscape. We actively encourage everyone in the Sportpursuit team to continue to develop and build new skills so a willingness to learn will be important. We do however require a few specifics from you.

To be successful in this role you must have

  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
  • Experience with Python/PHP or similar languages. Demonstrable personal projects or contributions to open source projects will be highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for learning and continuous improvement.

Nice to have but not essential

  • Experience with AWS Lambda or other serverless technologies.
  • Familiarity with other AWS services (e.g., S3, RDS).
  • Experience with testing frameworks.
  • Knowledge of e-commerce platforms and processes.
  • Understanding of Agile development methodologies.
  • A passion for sports and the outdoors!

  • Friendly and dynamic working environment with a Core Hours working pattern. Our Core Hours are 10am-4pm. Make up the rest of your time when you like

Salary: Β£31,000 per annum
