At Saga, we are looking for a Finance Manager to join our Insurance Finance team supporting Saga Services Limited (SSL). Saga has announced a 20-year partnership with Ageas, which brings together Saga’s brand, customer relationships and insight, scale in the over 50’s space with Ageas’s deep underwriting focus and technology. The joint capabilities enable the business to grow in the Personal lines space.
As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for Saga Services Limited’s month-end process, including all aspects of general ledger accounting and reporting. You will manage the AR and R2R teams and liaise with the rest of the Insurance Finance team. For the right candidate, this is also an opportunity to get involved in the set-up of the partnership with Ageas.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will have responsibility for and take ownership of the production and delivery of all internal and external financial reporting requirements, including, but not limited to, monthly SSL’s balance sheet pack, and liaising with both internal and external auditors.
You will work closely with the rest of the SSL Finance team, supporting the improvement of processes and the quality of financial information.
Collaboration is important to us at Saga, and our Insurance Finance team typically meets twice a month at our hubs in London or Kent.
Whilst we are recruiting for a permanent position, we would consider a candidate on a shorter-term FTC.
Role Responsibility
As the Finance Manager, you will:
- Lead SSL’s month-end process, including creating the monthly balance sheet pack, reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, and monitoring the progress of associated actions.
- Liaise with company auditors to facilitate and monitor responses to the SSL audit plan.
- Manage and coach a team of 6 and support their development.
You will also be accountable for the following areas:
- Support the implementation of a new general ledger system to deliver process improvement and enhanced management reporting.
- Prepare accounting memos and different internal and external papers including Audit Committee, Executive Committee, and Board papers throughout the year where relevant.
- Support the Financial Controller in maintaining a robust control environment and enhancing and testing the financial control framework.
- Build excellent working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external, including colleagues across finance and internal and external audit.
- Show curiosity to continually review and improve the control and process environment of the business.
- Contribute to the production of regulatory reporting, including RMAR and others as required.
The Ideal Candidate
As the Finance Manager within our Insurance Brokering business, you will be an ACA, ACCA, or CIMA-qualified accountant with demonstrable experience in financial reports in the Insurance industry. Experience within an insurance broker or MGA is essential.
Other skills and experience include:
- Line management experience and coaching and mentoring skills.
- Experience and competence in external financial reporting.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, managing stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
- Experience in General Ledger / Finance system implementation, preferable.
- Able to challenge processes and assumptions, with a mindset for continuous improvement.
- Able to quickly establish credibility, winning the respect and cooperation of colleagues.
- High integrity and objectivity, capable of selling ideas and implementing change.
- Analytically strong with the ability to challenge and interrogate, facilitating the ability to identify anomalies or inconsistencies and pursue these through to a resolution.
- Inquisitive, with a strong desire to understand the “why” behind processes in order to perform them better and identify opportunities.
