The UK Safran Electrical & Power team has expertise in designing and developing electrical systems comprising generators, power conversion, distribution and control, with developing expertise in electric motors for aircraft propulsion.

The Role

As a Senior Materials Engineer at Safran Electrical & Power you will provide guidance on materials and process matters, ensuring production line continuity, as well as providing support for R&D and R&T projects. You will improve reliability and cost effectiveness in future motor and generator designs. You will work closely with suppliers and customers to ensure optimal solutions are provided to ensure our products are safe to fly. You will carry out in-depth material investigations and analysis, defining root cause analysis particularly when related to metallic material issues, joining technologies and NDT.

  • Act as a focal point for issues related to materials and processes, providing expertise to carry out in-depth investigations.
  • Diagnose and suggest solutions to production problems, as well as act as one of the project team to recommend approaches or analyses for a new design.
  • Act proactively to improve reliability and cost effectiveness in future motor and generator designs.
  • Participate in customer briefings and design reviews by providing technical guidance to ensure the electrical generators maintain the highest possible quality standard.
  • Work with suppliers and customers to ensure optimal solutions ensuring products are safe to fly.
  • Maintain and update material and process specifications in line with the latest technology.
  • Coach graduates or less experienced engineers.

We are looking for candidates with a range of skills and experience, but we're also keen to help people grow and develop in this role. If you have some or all of the following, we'd love to hear from you:

  • Degree in engineering or other relevant experience.
  • Substantial experience in materials.
  • Specialisation in metallurgical science through academic qualification or working experience.
  • Aerospace experience desirable.
  • Experience and exposure to writing technical reports.
  • Experience and knowledge in joining technologies.
