New Part Introduction (NPI) Engineer – Safran
Safran Helicopter Engines is the world’s leading manufacturer of rotorcraft turbines, dedicated exclusively to the rotorcraft market. Our UK facility in Fareham serves as the European Maintenance Centre Hub for the She Group, carrying out level 1 to level 3 maintenance and repairs on complex helicopter engine components.
What will I be doing
The NPI Engineer will manage the transition of new and modified products from design through to production, ensuring robust configuration control and seamless integration into our manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Industrialization of Design Changes – evaluate and implement design changes, develop manufacturing processes, work instructions and quality assurance protocols, and coordinate cross‑departmental input to meet cost, quality and delivery goals.
- New Product Introduction – lead the transition of new products from the design phase through to production, develop detailed project plans including risk assessments, resources, timelines and budget, and oversee prototype builds, pilot runs and ramp‑up to full‑scale manufacturing.
- Configuration Control – establish and manage configuration control processes, maintain documentation and records of product designs, revisions and manufacturing changes, and ensure all stakeholders are informed of changes and their implications.
- Stakeholder Liaison – collaborate with commercial, purchasing and operations teams to align product specifications with customer requirements, select materials and components that meet technical and cost criteria, and integrate new products and process improvements into the production environment efficiently.
- Continuous Improvement – analyse and evaluate manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for cost reduction and quality improvement, and propose and implement process optimisations based on data‑driven insights.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum five years of experience in product engineering, preferably in aerospace or a similar regulated sector.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques.
- Experience with AS9100 fair process is essential.
- Experience with configuration management and documentation systems.
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Skills
- Experience with APQP process (advantageous).
- Experience with PPAP industrialisation process (advantageous).
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and practices.
- Familiarity with quality standards and regulatory requirements in aerospace manufacturing or a similarly regulated business sector.
