Overview
In this role you will drive the introduction of new and updated products into production, ensuring on-time, on-cost and high quality results. You will collaborate with design and other functions to ensure manufacturability and smooth hand-offs to operations. You will participate in design reviews, evaluate designs with 3D CAD and log issues, and lead APQP/PPAP activities and PFMEA. You will analyze capacity, tooling and line setup to optimize production processes and support customers, sales, R&T and after-market teams.
Responsibilities
- Participate in design reviews and suggest improvements
- Evaluate new product designs using 3D CAD models and mock-ups; log issues
- Coordinate design for assembly/manufacture reviews and provide feedback
- Ensure development mock-ups are built to schedule
- Evaluate design, log issues and provide feedback to design engineers
- Make improvement suggestions and validate solutions
- Conduct make vs buy analysis and seek optimization opportunities
- Collaborate with purchasing and design to drive changes
- Calculate production capacity requirements and identify tooling/space needs
- Estimate build times and number of stations for new processes
- Perform line balancing of operations
- Produce APQP & PPAP documentation (process flow, PFMEA, control plan, W Instructions, MSA & capability studies)
- Prepare and lead PFMEA reviews and use outcomes to drive improvements
- Validate product design against system requirements for quality and performance
- Identify tooling/equipment requirements and write supplier specification documents
Key requirements
- B.Eng. in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering OR HND gained through an apprenticeship
- Minimum of 2 years of aerospace or automotive manufacturing experience
- Basic knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly principles
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes
- Experience with 3D CAD modelling software
- Ability to interpret 2D drawings
- Experience with company and regulatory processes, standards and specifications
