We are looking for an experienced corporate tax specialist at Director level based in our Edinburgh office and be a part of our fast-growing and dynamic Scotland Corporate Tax Team.

A key focus of the work will be to work with the corporate tax team partner, to support further growth and development in the market and the team. There are clear paths to progression at the firm for the right candidate.

The mix of work will be varied as the client base of the corporate tax team is across a diverse range of business sectors both within the Scottish market and also our London client base.

We provide tax advisory and compliance services for businesses ranging from listed entities and multinationals to smaller owner-managed businesses. In addition, to commercial companies in service/manufacturing industries, we also deal with landed estates, professional partnerships, financial service companies, sports and entertainment businesses, entrepreneurs, charities, and schools.

Whilst the annual corporate tax compliance is the key focus of the role, tax planning will arise as a matter of course across this diverse portfolio of clients. This will include areas such as group tax planning, property planning, capital allowances, CFC and residency matters, corporate interest restriction, R&D tax credits, and s455 tax planning. Tax accounting will also be an essential part of the role.

The successful applicant will also work closely with the Partner on stand-alone tax advisory projects, including structuring acquisitions and disposals, transaction support, and due diligence.

The Team

The Scotland corporation tax team consists of one Partner, two Senior Managers, four Managers, three Assistant Managers, three seniors, and six trainees.

The team covers all the major accounting and tax disciplines including accounts, audit, and tax for companies in Scotland and all over the UK. Work is undertaken for large multi-national companies, family businesses, and a vibrant and varied combination of local, national, and international clients.

The team is welcoming and inclusive and has a mix of office-based workers in Edinburgh and Inverness and remote workers across Scotland. The Great Place to Work feedback is extremely positive, but we take all feedback seriously and look for continuous improvement in all areas to make the team individuals can be proud of being part of, and where they feel they belong.

You

  • Preferably CTA and/or ACA qualified and have experience in a Senior Management/Director level position.
  • Excellent technical skills and experience, and have a thorough understanding of UK corporate tax issues.
  • Experience of managing a team, and helping to deliver a very high standard of professional work to a challenging and varied portfolio of clients. The individual should also be able to market his/her skills and those of the firm, both on a one-to-one basis and in presentations.
  • Innovative with vision, creativity, and flair.
  • Ideally have previously dealt with a range of tax issues appropriate to our client base of corporate clients. This should include tax planning, capital gains, capital allowances, company restructuring, the review of corporate tax returns, and all aspects of general advisory services you would expect to offer to corporate clients.
  • Ability to look at the tax issues of private companies both from the point of view of the company structure, and that of their owners.

Reward and Benefits

  • A 35-hour working week with a hybrid working policy with the flexibility to work from home for up to three days per week (our core hours are 10-4).
  • Excellent benefits including a contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave, Life Assurance cover, and great flexible benefits and family-friendly policies.
  • Eligibility for the firm’s Profit-Sharing Plan, paid in December.
  • Eligibility for the discretionary bonus scheme.
