We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic Tax Manager to work within our UK Private Client Team and provide personal and trust tax compliance, tax advisory support and general private client project work. You will oversee all aspects of a client’s UK tax compliance affairs, building a portfolio and delivering high‑quality compliance and advisory services, with a flexible mix of compliance and advisory work.
Responsibilities
- Managing a portfolio of private clients, delivering high‑quality UK personal tax and trust tax compliance services and ad hoc advisory work.
- Reviewing UK self‑assessment tax returns, trust and estate tax returns and associated computations for individuals, trustees and partnerships.
- Providing personal tax advice on income tax, CGT and IHT.
- Ensuring all compliance deadlines are met, liaising with clients to obtain information in a timely manner.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for clients on tax compliance matters and building strong, trusted relationships.
- Supporting partners and directors with technical input on complex tax compliance issues, including residency, domicile, remittances and capital taxes.
- Managing HMRC correspondence and enquiries, preparing responses and supporting partners on more complex matters.
- Liaising with other service lines (corporate tax, accounts, VAT and financial planning) to deliver joined‑up client solutions.
- Identifying opportunities for additional advisory services and escalating appropriately.
- Budgeting, monitoring recoveries and supporting invoicing for client portfolios.
- Delegating work to junior team members and reviewing their work to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Coaching, training and developing junior staff within the UK Private Client Team.
- Contributing to continuous improvement of tax compliance processes and internal best practice.
The team
The UK Private Client Team consists of 5 Partners and close to 30 staff. The team advises wealthy individuals, families and their associated entities, handling all aspects of personal tax compliance for trusts, estates and private companies.
You
- Confident in building strong relationships with clients and colleagues, commercially aware, with clear understanding of client requirements and expectations.
- Enthusiastic, technically strong, highly organised, with excellent interpersonal skills, strong commitment to client service, effective deadline management and ability to oversee multiple compliance workflows concurrently.
- Self‑motivated, pragmatic and proactive, with a positive and professional approach to work.
- CTA qualified, and ideally holding ACA or ACCA qualification.
- Significant experience in UK private client tax compliance (personal tax, trust and estate compliance) and managing complex client portfolios.
- Experience providing written tax advice and supervising and developing junior staff is essential.
